Who would trade their 911 for an M3?

Let's see how many 911 owners would trade their car for an M3.

I'm NEVER going to trade my 911 for an M3.

The m3 is a nice car. But my answer to the question is: No possibility of trade... EVER.

I have considered the 4 door M3 as an addition for daily driving to work though

to go a step further, I will not trade my 911 for any other car other than another 911 variant.

It will be nice to have a Ferrari or Lambo in my garage, but they are certainly not daily driver.

I don't mind having an M3 at a good price, but no way as a replacement for my 911. I only trade cars in a forward direction, not backward. You know what I mean.

Chef, good thread, but I think you should start another that works with Tim's reply.

What car (if any) would you trade your 997 for?

But to answer your question, I would not give my 997 up for a M3.

I have never owned a car that I go through withdrawls when I don't drive it. About 18 months ago, my first 997 was rear ended (by a garbage truck), my insurance company decided to fix it (final repair bill was $30000) and it took 5 months to get it done. I was cranky, to the point my wife and brother noticed the difference. I bought my current car about a month after the accident. Sold the first one right after it came out of the shop. The point that I am trying to make is, the Porsche 997 has a certain magic to it that once one drive one, you can't do with out. I am sure that a few other cars would generate the passion that the 911 does in me, a M3 has never done it for me, I drove Audi S4's (01 and 05) prior to the 997, and not once did I even consider a M3.

Incase I am not clear, no I would not trade my 911 for a M3.

It's a great car no doubt but it will NEVER be a 911. Totally different experience. I actually thought about doing this and it's nothing like a 911 driving experience. I never get bored of my 911 and besides the M3 almost looks like a regular 3 series.....the 911 only looks like a 911....ok enough said.

Very well put!

I drove the 2009 M3 the other day. Not even exciting anymore (compared the previous platform)... I was very disappointed.

I agree . Most 911 owners who swap to an M3 need space or some practical driving aspect which the M3 offers.

Same here. Once a Porsche, always a Porsche.....911 that is. Never want to go back to any other car again. The driving dynamics are just not there.
