Today I have discovered an oil leak from the left side dripping from a line and a ridiculously loud sound randomly coming from the engine as if someone put some coins in a soda can and shaking it around. I am worried this is an IMS issue. I have 43k miles on the 07 TT. Out of warranty of course...hoping this is not a catastrophic situation.

While I admit, that doesn't sound good. I don't think you need to worry about the IMS bearing failure as you have a TT. Totally different engine than the M97. You should post in the turbo forum and see what they say.

agree with reply

I agree. TT doesn't have the IMS bearing failure problem. Also, the oil leak out the side would be odd. More likely to come from the bottom of the case. Good luck.
