Brake pad replacement time?
Brake pad replacement time?
How many miles do you guys get out of a set of brakes for your 997 S? I ask because my 2007 997 S has 4100 miles on it and is just starting to make a little "squealing" noise upon application of the brakes. I dont think thats enough mileage to warrant new brakes yet. A little extra info- my car is a daily driver, has never been on a track or to a trackday, mostly just normal city traffic with the occasional freeway trip. But, the car did have 200 miles on it when I bought it. (it was a dealer demo car) Now I'm thinking they must have really hammered the brakes during those 200 demo miles. Or do these brakes just start squealing after 4100 miles or so?
most all cars with good brakes make noise in certain temperatures. To make a silent pad compound in all temps would probably be soft and not last long at all, or be able to withstand any significant temp increase.
I just chalk it up to good brakes. And your car has a wear sensor, so it will tell you when your brakes are about done.

At 4100 miles, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Just take a flash light and look at the top of the caliper to see how much pad is left - should be plenty. Normal street driving I'm going to guess people can get 20k miles out of a set. Squealing doesn't necessarily mean anything - could just be cold...

Interesting. I have 24k miles and still had some pad left when I installed HRE's this Fall. Is that unusual? Not to hijack OP's thread, but any reccomendations for replacement pads. Maybe ones with less dust.Thnx.
20-25k miles is typical, all depends on braking style. Pad choice all depends on what car you have, what pads are available, etc. I've tried plenty, but keep coming back to OEM / Pagid Sport / 4-2-1 for street use. Can't really help the dust...
