XM and the beauty of forum searches.
One of the wonderfully annoying assumptions the form software makes is that anything that is 2 character words is not worth searching for, so I cannot search for posts with "XM" in them.... so....... Whats the best subscription rate one might be able to obtain on basic XM service with NavTraffic. My 3 mos free is about to expire and I'm wondering if I should just buy the basic rate ($17 for music+navtraffic) on a monthly basis or is there a better, unpublished rate that one could leverage?
Minok: You should be able to negotiate a much lower price. When I drove a Vette I paid $77/year. Just call them and say that you want the $77 price, or else. Also, do not give them a CC number as they are known to continue billing even if you cancel. Just ask to pay by check.
I was interested in the modual that is added to the on board computer, that works with the display screen and was quoted $1500.00, this seems a bit steep, Is there any other way to add Sirius or XM to a 07' without the add on dash component? Also, be careful, they have been known to continue billing once you cancel, happened to me when I moved from Jersey to Miami and sold the car. Now I would like to have it in my p-car. Sorry for the tangent..Thanks guys.

The traffic data feature (navtraffic) works great (its an extra cost and from the website I just saw yesterday, appears now to be purchasable by itself w/o audio subscription). For the Seattle area, at least. I get color overlays on traffic density on the monitored roads (interstates and major highways), and incident reports (which can be off by a bit but I guess its based on the accuracy of the report that comes in).. which should help autoroute around if navigation is active. I've yet to try that aspect of it (ie, I've not had it reroute due to an incident or congestion that shows up while following nav instructions). So far, I like the features, but its still early.. and I'll probably need more time to determine if I really get benefit out of the service or effectively just like looking at the more colorful map. Ie, if it turns out I'm not adjusting my commute when I see the traffic on the interstate is clogged, then I'm obviously not getting any benefit. So I'll have to live with it for a while longer to know.

Let us know how you make out Minok.
Did the '3 months free' start when you initialized XM (not on delivery of the car I'd assume)?
I will have the same situation in a few months so appreciate the info.

Thats what I'm going to do. No CC will be given. I'll call them and ask for the $77/year price and we will see. If I have to pay the $120/yr price, oh well, $40 is coffee for a month.. a drop in the bucket. But not something I'm willing to hand over without at least trying to save it first.
I'll be calling XM this weekend if not this evening and see what they offer.
So on Saturday, I got a call from XM giving me the sales pitch. As it turned out they were only able to sell the audio, not the navtraffic feed and indicated I'd have to call in to get that subscription. So I told them that if I had to call in anyway, why am I even talking to them now? They offered the basic 3 months at a discount and then regular price for the remainder of the year. No thanks.
On Monday evening, I called them. This time I pressed about the $77/year option. What I finally got out of them is that this was a special offer available with a promotion code, so if I got the postcard with the code I could get the promo price. The gal was not willing to just give me that deal. Ok, I'll wait for the postcard then, I told her. So,... anyone got the postcard with the promo code?
As it stands, in about 9 days, my XM service will be turned off the way XM is going. I'm not willing to spend $140 a year to listen to 3 stations when I can get almost the same effect with my iPod or pen drive and my own music collection. $80 a year I can stomach.
Then there's the impending due date of Sirius XM's corporate debt and the takeover moves by another company... who knows how that will effect things.
Update... So today, Thursday, during the working day, dailing 1800 347 0600 I got through to an american phone bank, based on the heavy southern accent of the person. After some digging she found my account using my email (the account had the wrong home phone # on it)... Asked for the $77/yr promotion for the audio services and a years navtraffic. For the $77/yr she required me to put a cc on file... so I told her 'no way'. I guess that is and was my XM experience. Did anyone have luck getting the $77/yr with just a billing?
Just got my letter from XM that I have 3 weeks left on 90 day trial.
Course, I did not know the service was running.
For several reasons, the car has not been driven (000075 miles on it).....so apparently it's not uncommon for XM subscriptions to start on delivery.....stupid, but not uncommon.
