It never ends

I ordered my 997.2 back in July and waited 4 long months for delivery, a gorgeous Aqua Blue. I thought I was set for a few years at least. Probably a couple of months after I started day dreaming of R8's and Aston Martins and F430's. It occurred to be that I will never be truly happy in a Zen like state with my car or any car. What I enjoy is the actual shopping, negotiating and dreaming of the next one.

Having said that, has anyone driven an R8 or swapped their 997 for one? Price is the only thing between me and an R8 right now. The moment they dip into the 90's, it's ON. I suspect once the V10 comes out the V8's will get there.

Also, does anyone have a 997 targa that can tell me about it? Being in FL, I am worried about the sun but I like the idea of convertible open air feeling while maintaining coupe looks. In fact, if I had to order my car again I would have opted for the targa.

Have you seen the three Turbo cabs at your local dealership? They have a black one in used cars and an Atlas in new cars .

I have zero interest in the R8 .
F cars are a different car entirely.

I have a new R8 that was purchased in November, driven two days and put into winter storage. It was the best two days I have ever had driving a car. I had an early '66 911 that was new. In my youth I thought this was the best ride ever. Now I believe the R8 is the best ride ever.

I'm afraid I suffer from the same disease as you do. After each car purchase I start the search for other nice cars, as well as lamenting letting the previous car go. I hate it.

I'd love an R8, and they are finally coming down in price.

I have a Targa 4S, and it is a wonderful car. At first I wasn't enthralled with having AWD, as the steering felt a little heavier than my previous C2S cab. But after a while I got to really like the feel of the car. It feels a little more planted on the road, and of course the wide rear end looks great, especially on the Targa with the tapered glass hatch. I also really like the daylight interior, which feels less clausterphobic. The glass is well tinted and there is no noticeable heat transfer into the car. It hasn't been a problem for me here in Southern California. I've heard some complaints about squeaks and rattles, but I haven't found that to be an issue. Once in a while if it starts to squeak, I wipe down the weatherstripping at the front edge of the sunroof and that usually makes it quiet down again.

Stacy: As discussed, I may be able to enable your condition by taking that cab off your hands so you can move onto your next project car. Or maybe you should apply your creative talents to a Targa! I could provide the car.

I could apply some creative talents to that car of yours and may take you up on that offer one day!

I understand completely. Really cant believe all the fabulous cars out there right now. With this economy its put cars out of budget - in budget. I looked at two 08 AMV8 roadsters (new) for $90K. Sticker was 140.00. Ive seen 08 R8 for 100-110. 08 Maserati Granturismo for 90K.

Whats funny I always comeback to my C2S and respect it even more. Its probably is the best ALL-round sports car in the world. Quality, beauty, style, performance, practicality. And with the 997.2 (your car) it gets even better. My next car is going to be a 09 C4S or maybe a Targa 4S with PDK.

I also love having my son in the back seat saying "go fast daddy" (hes 27 months). Cant do that in a R8.

'Tis a disease, all right. Suffer from the same damn symptoms! I seem to be happiest searching, researching and trying to find just the right one at just the right price. Then I pull the trigger ..... and, slowly, it starts all *&%#$**g OVER! But, Stacy, really.... with that project you're about to complete?????? Oh, buddy, aren't there are some meds that might help?
