Fabspeed CAI & BMC Filter
Fabspeed CAI & BMC Filter
Hey guys got my CAI & BMC in 2day. Just installed it and took it for a QUICK spin (effin snow). Anyway since getting my 997S 6 months ago the car is great better in every aspect than my 996, but 1 gripe w the S is Ive felt that it didnt seem that the engine was ALIVE. Its hard to describe but in my 996 when I downshifted and took off on the hwy you could feel the engine KICK up and ready to go to redline, w the S its very docile sort of speak.
With the CAI & Filter the car right off the bat is breathing alot better and is VERY smooth through the gears. I know w intakes and things they loosen up after 100 miles or so but putting only 15 miles on it I can feel a nice difference. So for $325 I like the upgrade very nicely, and it definitely has a nice sound I havnt WOT it yet on the hwy so Im sure that will be music to my ears. All in all a very nice setup for those looking to deliver the S power more smoothly and wake up that engine

808 do you know what im saying w the engine felt like it was holding back some? I dont know which part if the CAI or the BMC Filter is more than the other but together they are a nice compliment.
I believe I do. Prior to the BMC filter, the engine feels "choked", or not freely climbing up in the upper RPM range, after 5000 rpm. Now, it's smooth and effortless as you noted.
Am I correct in describing what you noted?

808 yea CHOKE is a good way to describe it, like it wasnt effortless. I know someone mentioned on here before the 3.8 had breathing issues.
What a difference though just a Filter and CAI can do.
BTW do you use your BMC as ur DD??? Someone said that u shouldnt that its a racetrack filter. Someone else w it said he never heard of that.
What is ur take on the BMC. Have you cleaned and reoiled yet? How many miles w it.

996,
My P-Car is relegated to more of a weekend car now. It used to be a DD, but ever since I got the GT3 bumper, it's a nightmare getting into and out of some of the driveways
. Would not change it for the world though
.
Anyway, I just recently got the BMC filter, and only put about 100+ miles on it. IMO, the BMC filter is similar to any of the other oil based filter. It can provide you with many miles of trouble free operations, as long as you reoil it correctly at every 20,000 miles (in this case). I do understand that freer flowing oil based filters may allow more particles to get into the engine, thus causing engine problems in the long run; however, I think changing engine oil/filter on a more regular basis than the manufacturer's recomendation can minimize the engine problem that may surface due to increased particles. This is just one man's opinion. I'm sure you have your own take on this based on your experiences and other individual contributions on this subject.
Regardless, I think the freer and smoother reving of the engine in the upper RPM is worth the "risk" for me at this point.

I was told you can use the BMC for everyday use, but yea you have to reoil it and take care of it. With 20k miles I would probalaly buy a new one when that time comes lol.
Get that car out and drive it like you stole it man

Hehehe, yeah, I would probably buy a new filter too if I only have to change it every 20,000 miles.
Hey, there's no more track where I live now and the closest speedway is on Maui. Have to take a 3 hr Ferry Ride just to run the car, and it's not a real race track either
.Well, there's always Autox in the big parking lot at Aloha Stadium.
