you dont neeeed to replace the clutch, but when talking with the shop they said its a big job to put in a LWFW and it would be wise to just wait till my clutch burns out to drop in a sachs stage 2 clutch at the same time as the LWFW

You don't lose any low end torque with a LWFW, the car will fill more alive and like you added 30rwhp as the car will get into the revs sooner. In fact a LWFW can add 6-10rwhp from the loss of rotational mass and tq. will increase as well. The perfect match for the 997S is a LWFW/LSD and a stiffer diffy (higher numerical). Unfortunately we can't change final gear ratio on the 997S. We are stuck with a 3.44:1. I would love to get a set of 3.89's. I'd give up some top speed for more grunt.

I just figure while they are in there installing the LSD...why not do the LWFW ?

You may want to talk to Alex at Sharkwerks about that. He strongly advised against the LWFW with the supercharger setup, as they tried it once and had running issues. I was going to upgrade a customer with a 997S (supercharged) to one, but after talking with Alex, we decided against it.

Craig, I know what the shop's arguement is, to change the flywheel when the clutch is worn makes sense, however there is up reason for not changing it before it is worn. That arguement can be used for any mod that most people have done. Wait until you wear out your shocks before changing the suspension, or till the cats wear out before you put high flow cats in. The shop is saying, you can save yourself the labour cost by waiting till the clutch is needed to be replaced.

As for the stage 2 clutch, ask yourself the question, do you have a problem with the OEM one? Are you adding more power (like an SC). There is no guarantee that a stage 2 will last any longer then the OEM, in fact it may last less then the OEM, no real comparison data exists.

My clutch blew out thanks to either my wife (who drove the car ONCE and got stuck on the driveway) or a valet. At that point, I decided to upgrade to a SachsStage 2 clutch, hi-performance pressure plate, and LWFW. Parts were purchased from Mike at AWE. As NorthVan (Ed) said, the LWFW are Aadsco, that's who makes the ones sold by most hi-end shops other than Synergy who make their own, as per BlaktOut. Parts plus install was $3k at my Porsche dealer.

My best mod to date has been the LWFW, and I've done just about all the "standard" mods- not including forced induction or suspension...yet.

I've got a thread on my LWFW/Clutch experience here:

Just suck it up and do it, read Gomez's thread as well, everyone likes the LWFW and wishes they did it sooner. Keep your stock clutch and worry about it in three to four years when it wears out.

I blew my mothers clutch in her porsche in 10K miles... that was also because she was driving it, and part because I learned how to drive a stick on that car... MANY MANY times i dragged out the clutch in first gear and then in 2nd gear after getting back on the throttle. but I guess i should just say screw it and splurge! I think I just bought an LSD, should I have them done at the same time? (are they both in the same case?)

That is what I did, they needed to take the car apart, so the extra labour cost is saved.

What LSD did you buy?

The LWF is such an awesome upgrade to any NA car but as stated we've had and seen issues when running it with an SC (software related).

Here's a video: http://www.sharkwerks.com/products.php?pid=151

How / how much does LWFW affect reliability or service life of drivetrain components? I'm confident it's very hard on clutches since there's much less inertia to pull away from a stop. Other than that, I'm just not sure.
