Well, thanks for your patience, everyone.

Today, Brando, ATL-Porsche, and I took our cars out on a closed private road (no through traffic, totally safe) and shot some videos of our cars.

The goal was to present 3 different and popular exhaust choices for comparison:

1. Fabspeed with EVOMS cold air intake= White 997S
2. AfterHours with EVOMS cold air intake= Black 997S
3. AfterHours + AWE 200 cell sport cats with EVOMS cold air intake = Grey 996 C4S

They all sound terrific, as the video shows. As expected, the Fabspeed was somewhat quieter than the AH pipes, and the AH+cats was absolutely nasty!

The Fabspeed is higher pitched vs. a lower pitch and more "gurgle" for the AH.

I definitely prefer the AH. Don't get me wrong they all sound great, but the AH is hypnotic... Wow!

the cars dont sound very exotic from the vids.
i really can't tell the porsche from a honda+fartpipe combo

I don't know Bara, I think the AH and the Fabspeed both sound as good as a you tube vid can and IMHO the best point is the ability to compare them from the same camera mic at the same time.

 

its probably not fair but i am comparing these videos to the youtube vids for the 997 GT3 (white car on mountain road) and the CGT and they both sound very intoxicating

The mic on the vid sounds a bit retricted though (missing bass / highs?) or maybe there is too much lossy in the youtube upload? In person both of those mufflers (Fabspeed / AH) do sound much better IMO.

They used a pro mic on the vid cam when shooting my car, maybe that made a diff on recording SQ. If you have good PC speakers turn it up, you'll feel the snarl

I was using a poorman's Sony HandyCam. If anyone with higher-end equipment lives near Atlanta, I am certain that the 3 of us would be more than happy to reconvene.


If they sound on the video, as Bara says, like a "honda + fartpipe" then there's certainly a lot lost between reality, my camera, and youtube. In person, they each sound phenomenal. There is a wail to the Fabspseed, a throaty gurgle to the AH, and a menacing ferocity to the AH+AWE cats.

Gomez, that's terrific! The AWE cats really go a long way toward improving the sound. On the ground, Brando's car sounded so much more throaty and mean than mine, and the only difference was he has AWE cats. They're on deck for me...

I would LOVE to hear some fat revvs of the AH+AWE cats (3k - 5k). That must sound sick. How many miles are on your AH pipes? They are going to open up in a couple hundred miles.

btw, if you upload your vid to youtube at a higher res, youtube gives you a "watch in high quality" option. The sound / vid is 2x as good.

if you notice my posted vid links, each one has "&fmt=6" on the end of the link. That tells youtube to play it in high quality. Makes a big diff- your sony cam should be totally fine, the issue is with uploading a low res file..

 

do any of the AF exhaust systems for a 997 S sound like this? this is the sound i would like for mine if possible...
