Straight from the mad house - California to reduce carbon emissions by... banning black cars?!.

The argument nonsense - Cool Cars Standards and Test Procedures - PDF

Ouch . It's a proposal not a law and my guess is that it won't pass . There is some logic in fuel economy and envornmental concern but if it's a ban on black cars one day it kinda makes one wonder what's next .

It will be interesting to see what position the domestic auto manufacturers take on the issue after taking the bailout assistance . If you recall .. the big three decided to car pool to grovel . I'll guess they'll support it .

Pehaps the proposal merely is an attempt to raise awareness in the face of those who oppose.

friggin goofy. Let us tint the way we want to and that would equalize it. Actually, I usually drive with the windows down to hear that lovely engine sound. No a/c at all.

What a joke, why not legislate some kind of solar powered cooling system that will keep the car cooler while it sits. I have seen this on a few cars in the past, and thought it was a great idea.

Typical government. Let's ban the sale of black cars while allowing unregulated polluting semis to cross the border unfettered.

The state is on the brink of financial ruin and some YAHOO had the time and energy to come up with something like this? Only in California I guess.

Sounds like the sort of crazy that comes out of Kali.

Not likely to pass though. How does a dark car increase carbon emissions? If anything, it makes the car warmer, but thats just heat. Otherwise the sunlight would warm the pavement or something else, or might get reflected.

So do we mandate the asphalt now be white too?

You are absolutely right. A counter argument to the issue of surface reflectivity is that a black object is actually an energy sink... therefore, trapping heat, which if reflected would further heat up the atmosphere... I think that's what's coming next - when all cars are white they will be banned because they reflect to much energy which heats up the atmosphere.

We need to get rid of these cooks and soon.

I guess my black/black 997S will become a genuine relic and demand thousands more when I decide to sell it.

And people wonder why the 8th largest world economy is bankrupt! How about stupid legislators and stupid voters that put them there. We really do get the government we deserve. The camels nose is under the tent now and none of California's citizens rights are safe from those that will regulate every aspect of your life.
