New 997C2 on the way, some questions regarding suspension

have a 997C2 on the way, everything should be wrapped up here soon... found this site on google after searching "porsche forum" and been reading a few days and just signed up now!

i just ordered non S, carrera. was what i really wanted so noone be all like "should have ordered S".. i opted for PDK and some other options over getting the red brakes and other random additions of the S.

so far i have already ordered new 19" wheels because the original 18" wheels are hideous, i made an appt for tint, and have ordered full exhaust. the only other modification i would like to do right away is to lower the car since i did not opt for porsche lower suspension, just the standard.

options are:

H&R sport springs (have heard blows shocks are 10k miles usually?)
Eibach Springs (same as above, heard a little stiffer)
H&R Coilover Kit (would think shocks would blow as well after use since lowering it add's preload to the shocks.... wouldn't these last the same 1.2" drop as stock shocks w/ above springs?)
Bilstein PSS9 again.. since lowering increase preload.. same as just springs?
ive heard something about some other coils made by JIC for euro applications.. cant remember name...and then something about PSS10's?

looking to lower around 1.2", i do not plan to upgrade sways and such.. just looking for ideal coilover setup that wont blow because of the desired ride height/extra stress on shocks with use...

thank you for the great threads that have gotten me thus far. just cannot find thread on "coilovers" on here...

There are a lot of threads regarding coilovers and springs on the site, but my vote would be for coilovers.

I can tell you I had H&R springs on my 997 for a short time and did not like them at all. Switched to Bilstein Damptronics and really like the way they feel and handle. I feel like they have actually gotten better with time. I hear that KW is a good coilover as well. Very compliant and comfortable on the street. Unlike the Damptronics which only have two settings (firm and soft via the PSM button), the KW's can be individually adjusted for compression and rebound, but you lose the PSM since they are not PSM compatible.

anyone compare/contrast/complain/other the above

In that case, my vote would be KW. JIC is more of a competition suspension, so if you plan to track the car I would say they would be good. If your car is mostly street use, I would say it's overkill. PSS9 is a good choice also.

this is good, this is good. and this is good... id say the other is good too. haha

lets knock out the JIC cause i ehard stiff/track preferred.. and knock out the H&R because bad reviews..

so now were with KWv3 (i dont even see them for 09' but i guess same as 08'?)
the PSS9
(do they make PSS10? what is difference here????)

I like the Bilsteins, I say get the PSS10/PSS9.

Many vendors on this site sell them send a few PM's and I am sure they can tell you about availability for your car.

Congrats on the new ride and welcome to 6 speed.

Congrats on the ride coming to ya. Can't comment yet on suspension mods yet.

I have KW on my Vette. They are great coil-overs but trust me once you set up the suspension your not gong to want to re-adjust them.

johnstoy is infamous around these parts
You might want to cruise the 996 forum for non-PASM suspension information: there are a LOT more comments/threads/opinions there (996 did not have PASM). Yes, I know you have a 997, but most of the 997 production so far have been 'S' models with PASM so most of the users on this part of the forum do not have a full picture of the non-PASM experience (soft springs + stiff shocks).
I am not certain about the 997.2 non-S suspension, but the 997.1 non-S suspension is the same as the 996 suspension: that is why I recommend looking on the other part of this forum for information.

YMMV

i was going to to do the install and then rough in the ride height and then have corner balance and alignment done local @ place that specializes in porsche...

ive done tons of installs but never porsche before.. figured thats easy.. doing alignment isnt that bad but getting the floor level with tiles/etc is such a pain...

soooo excited for the car!

The mod bug is already bitting and you haven't even gotten the car

Are you looking to upgrade the suspension for ride heigh or also performance purposes? If it is just for ride height, I would consider the springs (save some money), the Porsche handles pretty good out of the box.

Anyways...good luck sleeping

i know cheaper to go springs, but factoring the cost of new shocks after a year its more cost beneficial to just order the coils i think...

ride height for looks (didnt order any sport susp.. so its 4x4) and performance (not tracking the car tho)..

i like to plan all my mods before it arrives so it can be "finished" within the week... the wheels i ordered were luck because they were the very last set in stock (whew)
