"C" in Carrera is coming off.

The "C" in Carrera is coming off my car. The long leading edge of the C has gotten caught under too many washing mitts.

Anyone ever try to fix this? I was thinking of using a small piece of double sided tape. Any other options?

Thanks!

Buy a new one and re mount it. I think they are about $20 for the entire "Carrera".

If you do change it, make sure that mark the edges of the original one with some tape.

Alternatively you can remove the whole thing with a blowdryer/fishing line/dental floss (takes 5 mins), peel off the original double-sided tape, and apply a fresh layer of tape to it.

Make sure you use tape intended for external/bodyshop work (I've used 3m or Proform successfully).

yes happened to me, had the car at the car wash and the guy broke the Carrera letters. It wasnt so bad until he tried to hide it and once i saw it he tried to tell me it looked better that way...that was when i got the boss involved and he said he would take care of the charges.
to answer your question, I recommend replacing the entire badge just because it isnt expensive and also if you try to glue or tape it back on it wont stay. I ordered a new one from Suncoast and actually painted it black and installed it in minutes. easy DIY

"also if you try to glue or tape it back on it wont stay"

And does this come from experience?

3m double-sided tape intended for automotive work will not fall off. You'll be surprised how often factory and aftermarket shops use it to secure *body panels* on cars - let alone a 5 gram plastic badge.

If you want to save yourself some time, I agree - buy a new badge. But if want to work hands-on and fix the problem in under 5 mins, go the tape route.

I'm inclined to try to tape it back down, as I really don't want to be trying to re-align the new Carrera and get it straight. I'm sure that the Porsche factory uses a template to make sure it's in the right place. I don't want to risk it if I don't have to.

Any idea where I would get this 3m double-sided tape intended for automotive work ?

I mention 3m in my post, but I've used both 3m and Proform in the past and both perform exceptionally well. When reapplying your badge, just make sure to wash and dry the decklid beforehand with a light mixture of dish soap and water to get any excess wax off - This is true if you are applying a replacement OEM badge as well to promote maximum adhesion.

In Canada, you can buy the 3m stuff from Home Depot and "Canadian Tire" (our equivalent to Pepboys). Proform is cheaper but needs to be purchased from auto supply shops like NAPA.

Here's the homepage for the 3m product: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...beV0141B40KNgl

And Proform: http://www.proformproducts.com/en/pr.../detail/?id=88

I would still not glue or tape it on, not only because it will probably fall off, but also because the carrera badge is all one plastic piece, so if your C came off, you will see a mark where it connects

I'd just take it off and leave it off, like I did mine. It looks cleaner, and you don't have to worry about catching wash mitts on it anymore.

Let's see. One roll of 3M brand 2 sided tape, $8-10 bucks or a new model badge for
$ 25 bucks or ???? Hummm, forgot to mention the time taken to apply the tape to the broken part of the name plate so that the type doesn't over lap the letters. Then there is the time to make sure that when you reapply the broken part of the name badge it's lined up correctly with the remaining pieces of the badge. Oh, and don't forget the time it will take to replace this broken taped down piece of the name badge every time you wash the car. OK, answer is, take all the old badge off and leave it off or get a new one and attach it with the included double sided tape that is in the exact shape of the letters already.

While I'm playing with it, maybe this is the time to get a red "S" to replace the silver "S".

I'm tempted to debadge. I debadged my BMW 330i, and that was a big improvement.
