June build, August delivery for MY 2010?
June build, August delivery for MY 2010?
My dealership says they can special order a model year 2010 today in one of the four standard colors (black, white, red, yellow) and it will be a "true" 2010.
Does anyone know if this is factual or just truthiness? I thought the factory was closing in July/August, and that then they would start 2010 production.

I believe that's true. Although the factory does close, I remember reading that the MY switches over prior to the closing but with very limited options and colors. Nothing that will be available on the new August order guide will be orderable, and colors a/o options that will be discontinued for the coming model year also cannot be ordered. I believe the advantage is that if the build is to your taste you can obtain the next model year at the current model year price. Typically the price goes up w/ the publication of the order guides in August.
I was told the same story by two dealers. My dealer has 2010 allotment and could make changes to the order until June 15th (the build date).
He said the car could be available early as end of August or Sept, but Porsche holds back the next model year at the dock until 2009s are sold.
So it could be Oct-Dec before the dealership would actually get it.
I just bought a 4S, and they weren't released until late Oct-Nov.
I got the same story independently from two dealers.

Too many cars to spec one
There are so many cars on lots it's like a candy store . Not it's true that if you want some beautiful and less common options a specd out car is great but you do pay more for that -- money, time, stress .
We are so close to 2010 I'd wait it out or really nail a deal on an 09 using months end each month as a negotiation day until you find the car and price that leads it to your garage.

Just a note. My dealer was encouraging me to get a 2010, but just wanted me to know how Porsche works.
Also he didn't know the increase in 2010 (assume 2K-3K), and wasn't willing to discount much.

Maybe they will halve production and raise the price.
