Hmm, strange problem, I just got my car a few weeks ago and took it on a nice road trip. So, I put my previous generation iPod Nano in the car's Universal hub for iPod, and it worked fine for a little while. Then my car decided it was going to go metric, and it changed all of my preferences to km and Celsius. After the trip was over (6 hour drive), I checked the next morning and the iPod was not recognized. Now it is totally dead. It won't even charge. I have tried to get it going on my laptop, but no luck. I am scared to get another unit, because it could fry that too. Also, the newest gen Nano is not fully supported.....What do you guys think???

 

I have been using my 120 gb iPod Classic daily for 2.5 months...been working fine...weird....

 

Have you tried "resetting" the iPod? Check on Apple's site for instructions on how to do that. I believe you have to hold down two buttons at the same time.

 

yeah, usually a menu-center restart works fine. But this thing is DOA. It is not frozen with any screen showing. It won't even accept a charge from the USB. My Mac finds it and says it has several errors that will not allow it to start. I checked the errors, and it seems the data is corrupted and is showing a "fatal flaw". Ouch. Anyway, I downloaded a few utilities, and maybe we will be OK. I am thinking that my Car will need that new update that porsche just released. BTW, I just got a new error code while I was typing, and this is instructing me to restart the nano several times until I get a screen......

 

PAG dropped the ball big time on this iPod adaptor and they better put their ducks in a row and fix it.

 

I know....I heard a lot of folks are just putting the USB stick in, instead of the iPod. There are some bizarre charging issues with the ipod too.....

 

I've had my iPOD classic lock up on me twice (in a week) in the Porsche.
I was able to recover it with the reset procedure, but strange that it does this.

 

I have had a similar problem in the BMW IPOD adaptor - it locked up my Nano and I could not reset it. I had to wait for the battery on the Nano to drain completely, then it did recover when it was plugged into a charger.

 

yeah, the ipod kit must have corrupted something in the OS. The normal reset would not work, and it was just about bricked. Apple feels that it was the porsche interface software that did it. I got the nano back to working order and they recommended that I do a full restore on the nano's OS. All is well now, but I will have to see tomorrow if it is still working. Probably just a small hiccup in the programming. I am really very happy with the new PCM interface. I have to call the service guys anyway to see why all my settings went crazy right about the same time it killed my ipod!

 

Is someone reporting this to Porsche?

 

I will talk to my service adviser today and maybe send an email to porsche. I would not be surprised if they already have the update for this bug and it just needs a reflash or disc install!

The USB stick interface works great....I am not sure there is any need for an IPOD. I picked up a 32GB version (<$60), copied all my MP3's and plugged it in. Works great.

 

I have had mine for two months and use it daily.
Not one problem so far.
There is however a new software update available for the 997.2

My son had the same thing happen to his iPOD in his Subaru so it may not be a Porsche specific issue. In his case his battery was toasted. My guess is the same thing happened to yours. Have heard of similar issues with early model cell phones when leaving them plugged in to the cigarette lighter socket for long periods of time. My understanding is that it has to do with the high amperage generated by the cars charging system which kills the battery. However, with a Porsche installed system designed specifically for that purpose it shouldn't have happened and it should be something Porsche will stand behind. All you have to do is prove to them that the cars system caused the problem. Good luck with it.
