997.2 Warranty
997.2 Warranty
Can Porsche void the warranty of your whole car ,if you lower it or put an after market air intake .I was told by my mechanic that they could .Just want to know if that true .
Only if they can show that air intake caused the problem like maybe the radio to stop working - ask your mechanic that question...then I'd start looking for a different shop or definitely a different mechanic.
I had my 09 C2s n for oil burning and soot issues. PCNA is monitoring my cars oil burn and soot. When I picked up my car I was told point blank by the dealers service manager and the PCNA area rep that if I do any of the following PCNA will void my entire powertrain warranty:
Air Intake
ECU Flash
Headers
Aftermarket Cats
and any other external or internal modifactions.
My Fabspeed side muffler by pass pipes are in slight question and the dealer and PCNA rep called me on Monday and now wants to see my car. However right now any exhaust mod AFTER the cats is OK.
My dealer told me Porsche has changed there tune about after market mods and are stricter than ever on warranty.

friend made big stink about me lowering car and voiding warranty.... champion told him so.. well they can only void my suspension warranty but those will be sitting in my garage and most the other components as well so them having warranty doesnt really matter then ;-)
intake can void other engine stuff because they can say it sucked in something wrong or engine ran differently because sensors readings off but lowering it only affects suspension parts ur swapping out anyways.. affects abs shortly and affects some bushings because added strain... thats it.
They can't void the entire car's warranty but they can deny coverage for that repair or future repairs related to it .For instance if your a/c broke it's not related to intake or spring installation .
They may not . You can not spend your days worrying about what may not happen . It's in the shop and out of your hands at this point . Let's say the absolute worst case scenario occurs .. voided warranty , problematic car .
It sounds like that dealership already pit you with the warranty hurdle but they can make it up by selling you a new car at a price which moves a unit and takes you out of a problem car with a warranty snag .
That's right .. hedge the loss right here if the worst case presents itself. If not they will fix it and you can enjoy that car and save the money .

There was a thread on a Bimmerfest recently where posters were discussing how to conceal mods to avoid losing warranty coverage. I suggested that such action was fraud or at least was shifting the cost of their mods onto BMW and from there onto the rest of us. I also said that I thought they should just man up and pay their own way. If they take their car in for service and a mod affects warranty, then they should do all they can to convince BMW to cover it - especially if it seems unrelated to the mod, but in the end, they did mod the car and have to take responsibility for it and the associated costs.
There was a firestorm over it. One poster inquired whether I called someone when I found a mattress tag removed (yea, I thought that one was funny too).
Anyway, all of that to say: wow - the perspective here is quite different. Folks just do what they want, usually after some research, advocate for their position with the dealer, and accept the consequences.
Seems more mature, responsible and self-reliant.

He has more than a warranty obstacle . He has a new car with a problem large enough for service to contact Porsche and that means (warranty aside) fixing it is not easy .
When I see things like this .. I say cut all losses right here . Trade the car in on a new car . Let the dealership help hedge the loss . Customer wins . dealership wins , and future problems are avoided with that car .
He'll lose about 8 K but the headaches he can save are well worth it. Plus he should get a manual so that no bad memories of his PDK are present.
A new car is suppopsed to be a happy thing and if he is sitting in service with less than 1K miles .. this is his time to cast aside denial and divorce that car.

I wouldn't change the intake on the 997TT since it's such a "visual" thing and something they all see and can point at. It's not like there are any real gains. The factory one is so good/efficient already so why risk it.
How is that different than a intake.?
Lockie, good question...but even though the 09 exhaust system is super quiet it really does not effect power all that much so air flow throught the mufflers is a minimum....
but I can tell you as of right now Porsche told be (PCNA, head tech of my dealers service and the area P Car rep) that any exhaust mods after the cats are fine. However an intake is a different deal with them because of how the MAF controls the system I was told. I was told point blank that any intake mod, headers and/or cats mod from stock and definitly a ECU mod would automatically VOID the cars warranty on the powertrain and electrical system.
Now with all that said my dealer called me last week and when the PCNA rep is back at my dealer he wants to see my car and look it over due to the Fabspeed side muffler deletes I have installed. They want to see if this effects the ECU tuning in a negitive way causing sooting, heat issues, oil burning and fuel being dumped into the cylinders. If it does...void of warranty. Porsche is getting extremely strict on mods that will and can effect the engine of the car.

take off the muffler deletes and tell pcna to go screw himself...you aren't seriously thinking about taking it for them to possibly void your warranty are you? i had the bypass pipes on my 06 997s before I sold it and my dealer never mentioned anything about it

For a dailey driver I'd say they would be too loud for 99% of the guys here. There is drone at 2000-2400rpm. If my car was soley a dailey driver I would get the Fabspeed dual core side mufflers and a crossover pipe to delete the center muffler.
Hope this helps!
