I disagree wholeheartedly. I'm sure that after my first scratch, I'll forget how much I paid for the car and won't care what happens to it after that. I'll be free to drive it and park it without a care in the world. Will take many, many years and many, many scratches and dents for this to occur.

I hear what you're saying, and yes, we love our cars and take immaculate care of them. For some it's therapeutic, for others an obsession. Unfortunately (and in general), unless you plan to show it what it isn't is asset preservation. I've had too many experiences over the years of maintaining various cars in what I thought was absolutely scratch-, ding-, scuff- and chip-free perfect condition - and at considerable effort - only to be told when I traded it in that it had a, b and c imperfections. For me, the bottom line is drive it ("like you stole it" some say), keep it in good shape and well maintained, but not obsess about it or freak out over a ding, and you'll enjoy it more. But that's me.

BTW - I like your handle "Ghotiman." I remember that letter sound play-on-words from grade school

i am going to have to disagree with most here. the rear bumper is very resilient and can pop back out without much visible damadge in a hit though the inside structure may have taken a beating.

i had this happen to my C5 vette back in the day. bumper looked fine with very superficial scratches but the foam crate structure was cracked inside and once it cracks, rain and other water will crumble it to pieces in short order and you wont have its protction in another hit.

had to replace the inside support structure even though the outside looked like it would easily buff out.

basically the bumper cover was plastic and poped out back into shape after the hit.

have them pull the bumper cover to make sure all is in good shape would be my advice.

Lighten up xxx. it's a car, a great car but a car. It is a drivers car. You may opt to leave it in the garage of course.
