You most likely got the Gen-I PCCB in that case. Most reports say that they Gen-II came along at the end of 2005. The Gen-I were well known to fail after a few thousand miles. I was looking for information on Gen-II problems, which I have been unable to find anything on.

if a 2005 997s he has Gen II...not surprising that he has gone through one set of fronts as much as he tracks and also being an admitted heavy braker...I fully intend to switch to steel/iron when my pccb's are gone...they are good but not worth the huge cost of replacement...

Just out of curiosity, is there any way to identify a Gen-I from a Gen-II, aside from production year?

pretty sure that all 997's coupes have GEN 2 ceramics...believe me, i know went through thick and thin with porsche to try to get the rotors replaced under warranty...less 10k miles with less than 6 track days.first time they wore out..but i never bedded in brake pads and let the pads wear down pretty thin..now i know.......i change the pads at 6-7mm and always bed in pads..there are plenty of threads at rennlist on this topic ..racers hate them)because of their cost and fragility) ..street people love em..they last forever on the street with an occasional track day. if money was no object i would continue to use them...mk

Guys - I am looking at purchasing a launch 997S with PCCBs. I do not track but maybe one or two times a year. I have a couple questions:

Will a PPI include a detailed look at the rotors, etc.?

After they go, what is the overall cost to replace with Porsche's regular steel brakes?

personally would not get a 2005 unless cpo'ed. mine is..had my shifter an linkage changed (very sticky), rotors replaced (partial warranty), oil separatior changed, battery changed, all under cpo..
as far as the brake question, haven't yet done the steel switch but can switch the front to stelll gt3 rotors for a little over 1k including pads and labor..rear prob dont have to be changed..not sure how much stock 997s change over ...would be (more inlcuding calipers, rotors etc).
