Manual users & PDK

I tried a tiptronic and it didn't do it for me as the fun factor just wasn't there when compared to a manual. The PDK is in its own league compared to the tiptronic.

I was just wondering if people with manuals will move to a PDK on their next car?

Also, for those that transitioned from manual to PDK....any regrets? Fun factor to drive still there like on a manual?

I have yet to experience the PDK but am maybe thinking about it. The dealer told me Porsche want to eventaully move away from manuals and only have PDK.....they have high hopes for PDK and think it will take over manual sales over time.

No - I'm sticking with a manual.

Oh Noooooo....

Moderators. Close this thread. j/k.

This has been beaten to death and very controversial.

Bottom line, some love it . Some hate it. Some went to PDK and regretted it. Some won't go back to manual. Some thinks it's just as hard to drive it on the track...etc.

You won't know for yourself until you pull the trigger. You also may not know if you'll regret it later once the novelty wears off.

Here's something to think about...

The new GT3 did NOT go the PDK route... and thank goodness for Porsche to keep it's signature sports car to the purest raw form of a true sports car without all the many gizmos and gadgets. Whether or not they did it for that reason or for reasons that the PDK couldn't handle the power, or is heavier, or whatever PDK lovers are gonna say why it wasn't offered in the GT3...I really don't know.

If I stay with a 'standard' 911 for my next sports ride, then I'll definitely choose a PDK. But the more likely pick list is:
GT3 (.2 or later)
R8 Cab
Lotus Exige
(sorry for the minor hijack)

+1, if it was all about how fast I could go, the GTR would be in my garage.

so for the extra time it shaves from 0-60......it takes a little of the fun factor in being "totally in control of the car". I was just surprised by a saleman saying porsche would like to get away from manual and only eventually have PDKs but if the trend of preferring manual over auto doesn't change then it ain't going to happen!

I feel that cars like the IS-F and GT-R limit their potential buyers because they don't have manuls.....reason why I quickly eliminated them from my list early on.

I just don't want to regret buying a PDK and the there is a little spousal pressure in me "liking" the PDK so that she can drive it once in a while....lol. She is ok if I go with a manual IF I truely feel that I will regret taking a PDK later down the road.

I guess I will try it like I did with the tiptronic and will probably come away saying it eliminates some of the fun factor! I also want to keep my options open for resalability of the care later down the road. I guess the manual will be easier to sell than the PDK unless the trend changes in favor of PDK.....only time will tell.

Its all a personal choice and as long as your happen with your decision then this is what counts.

To each his own.

This topic has been beaten to death for sure, having said that my personal preference is for the manual 6 speed, just my preference.
I think most salespeople are expressing personal opinions, mine said PDK has not been as popular as Porsche expected and most Pcars at this dealer (Nashua NH) are coming w/6 speed man.

thanks for all the opinions....I think the trend will remain. Those that like autos just have a new & improved version and for those that like manuals there is no change & will continue to enjoy them!

My C2S 08 is manual and I am undecided if my next car will have the PDK.

I had many manual Porsches over the years and my next one will be a PDK especially since it's not just a weekend car.

The primary motivation for purchasing PDK for me was traffic. I typically like manual cars, but I can't take the strain on the left calf anymore.

Search for my posts.

I bought and owned an '09 PDK car for 6 months before trading it for an '07 manual.

PDK is fantastic, but removes too much driver involvement for me.

I took a rather large financial hit just to go back to manual; in fact, I probably could have had the PDK yanked out and a manual installed for the amount of money I lost in the trade, but I also went from a C2 to a C2S so it was worth it for me in the end.

No more dual clutch tyrannies for me; at least not in a Porsche.

I almost bought an 08 C2S but now have decided on an 09 C2 so I was wondering what your impressions were between the 2 considering the 09 C2 almost matches the power of an 08 C2 plus it has DFI, new suspension, new exhaust, etc. Do you personally prefer the older S instead of the new 997.2 non S even with the changes to the 09 models?

Thanks

Porsche use PDK for first time in 1983 in a 956 for LeMans I had a C4S with PDK and the car is fantastic. I think the reason why Porsche doesn't make a GT3 with PDK is because this toy is for old fashion guys. I use my car in track at least one time at month and is awesome.
