I have a 2005 3.6 997 coupe with about 12K miles and always garaged. The rear wing makes this loud squeeling noise when it deploys up and retracts down. It seems to do it without affecting the function of the wing when I manually raise or lower it. I'm thinking about WD40-ing it over the weekend. Has anybody experienced this noise? My car is out of warranty as of March so it's DIY options for now. I tried a search of this topic and came up with nothing! Thanks all!

 

This is normal...my 07 did it since new. Do you hear it when you are driving? I only hear mine when I am parked and I deploy the spoiler.

I don't think I hear it when I'm driving, but then again, I'm usually in the city and rarely hit 70mph on the streets so the wing rarely has a chance to deploy. It's very annoying. Have you tried lubricating the wing struts? I'm tempted to do it, but worried I may damage something if I lub it with WD40.

 

Are you out of warranty? If not, have the dealer handle it with the correct lube etc.

 

My 2005 997 had this noise issue. Under warranty, the dealer took care of it. I think they just lubed the moving parts since the invoice did not indicate any replacement of parts.

 

WD is very safe. I wouldn't hesitate to spray it on just about anything anything.

maybe push it out and then some white lithium grease and then have it go back in.. idk mine does same.. been debating cause i never hear it when im driving only stopped

 

I have the same issue and I was also planning to WD40 it, but when I looked I couldn't find what to spray.

 

Put me down for having the same exact issue. It probably does the same thing at speed, but traveling at 75mph, you'd probably can't hear it.

Upon close inspection, there are a couple of hinges that one could spray WD40 into. There's also a tube like structure that supports the spoiler itself that perhaps need to be greased.

It doesn't bother me much, but if there's a simple cure, I'm all ears.

 

My '05 started to do the same thing a couple if weeks ago. I tried lubing the "banana" support and the attachments to the wing but that didn't help. Then I noticed a very small (maybe one mm.) hole in the middle of the support tube, squirted in some lube and the problem disappeared. I think just about any lube would be safe with the plastic that is used.

 

i'm sure your girlfriend might feel differently...

 

I also have the same problem, and haven't been able to find how to lube it and get it to stop. I found that small hole and shot some WD-40 in there, but unlike you, it did nothing to make it any quieter. So, if anyone has any pictures of what to lube would be huge help.

exact same concern here too! pictures of where to shoot some lubricant would be helpful.

 

WD40 is a water displacement spray, not a lubricant.
