Softronic flash - adapts to modifications?

I have Softronics flash on my 997s - at the time I purchased the flash, the car was bone stock but I've since done exhaust and intake work.

It was always my assumption that the Softronic flash adapts automatically to any modifications, but thinking some more about it this week, I recall how important it was to detail what modifications the car had at the time the flash was written...indicating that more than just a base flash that adapts exists.

On my 987S, I had Scott work his magic last, after his awesome race plenum + exhaust work so I never had to worry about this there. This time 'round on the 997S, I had Scott whip up a flash when the car was stock, then made all my modifications after I said I'd probably not do so (haha)

Thoughts?

Yup - sent him an email, but I know from past experiences that he's often swamped and can't reply to each email he receives. Figured somebody here may have been in a similar position and may be able to shed some light.

From what I recall, they will send a new flash based on the new mods. But as a few have said Scott is the best person to answer this question.

IIRC, Scott did mention that his flash will adapt to modifications that were not added on prior to the first flash. Do a search on this forum and you will find it in print.

Hello All,

Softronic is already setup to take advantage of most mods or deletions . So for the ops question on the exhaust, Yes it is already adjusted for any flow rate changes. The part though that a more specific flash may be required as an example would be if you installed another complete intake that is not close to any original in flow or resonance compensation. Another example would be on a Turbo in which you change to a different turbo , fuel pressure, cams.

Best Regards ,

Scott,

Excellent - thanks for the response.

Would the EVO intake that a lot of us use (often semi-jokingly referred to as the hot air intake) count as a substantially different intake in your opinion?

Cheers again for your time!

Thrilled with the Softronic flash on both my 987S and my 997S.

On the Boxster, the latest flash with Scott's race plenum transformed the car from simply great to sublime. The difference was shocking, really. I am not exagerating when I say that the plenum + Softronic flash + Remus exhaust has made that machine simply put, my favorite car of all time (and I've owned one or two of everything over the years raning from Vipers to F-cars).

The flash gains feel less on my 911, but no less pleasing. Frankly, I don't think I'd enjoy either car nearly as much without the flash. In both cases, I should note that I do not have Chrono - so for me, having the sport mode throttle via Softronic flash is almost worth the price of admission (akin, for me anyhow, to the mods4bargains comfort module being worth the price simply for the passenger window auto up "fix").

That the car runs cooler and better is of course just gravy.

Do it - you won't be dissapointed. Scott's a wizzard with these DMEs and it's no cooincidence that he's in such high demand during the race season.

Hello,

Softronic does not sell any Cold air intakes. I will only say that any of the 997 or 987 etc intakes should take ALL of the air from the outside of the engine compartments. Make sure that the given sealing actually does completely block off the engine compartment as this is all hot air as they say.

The stock 997 will differ about 7HP by just opening or closing the rear deck lid while on a dyno with a full chassis fan. The air flows over the top of the car and to the stock intake very effectively. When you open the deck lid or do not flow the air correctly as it would while driving the engine either draws in the hot air or works more for it. The stock intake utilizes what we had considered ram air in older cars . I always recommend just changing the stock filter more frequently.

Best Regards,
Scott Slauson

Far from scientific, but in the 3 weeks I've been running the EVO intake, I've been taking temp readings via infrared pyrometer. I'm measuring temps at the middle of the airbox body, and in the middle of the snorkel leading to the TB.

Here in Dallas, we've been at 100 or 100+ for the past week so I've had some decent 'worst case' type testing. The EVO airbox and snorkel will be cool enough to touch after a drive that's not 100% stop and go. Within 5 to 10 minutes of stopping the engine, the temp will spike by 45~55 degrees along those spots. It's sealing well as the filter itself is cool to the touch right after coming to a stop but will soon spike in temp as well after being stopped or parked.

Scott is 100% correct though - if it's not sealing completely, it's probably not doing much of anything other than proving a nice soundtrack. Personally, I was hard pressed to notice much performance difference with the EVO filter but I love the intake note with it...I went back and forth between it and stock probably half a dozen times that first day to see what I liked best. I bought mine used as well so it was cheap entertainment.

I was able to check sealing somewhat by placing small pieces of double sided tape LOOSELY along the rubber seal surrounding the filter compartment of the EVO. In my case, I was able to see where I needed some adjustment in how the airbox "sat" by seeing which pieces of tape stuck to the decklid, and which did not. There's enough pressure against the deck lid along where that rubber seal meets it that the tape will want to adhere to the deck lid (provided it's clean enough) and not the rubber seal when closed.
