You still get some leather on the door arm-rest, so they've done a good job.
I actually think it is practical. It would be interesting to see what is typical in Germany. Too much leather to me seems like a maintenance issue from hell - especially a dash exposed to sun and the top of the door panels exposed to sun and maybe my arms too much. And I agree with you; the car looks fine in standard trim, although I do prefer the look of the all leather vented seats - but may regret them later. I did like the idea of the leather shifter surround though - seems out of the way enough to wear well - I hope, and if not, I'll still have the original part.

I was kind of bummed out to find that the rear seats were also vinyl, but as that turns out to be a primary storage area, they may be more practical as well.

I agree on the practicality of vinyl surfaces. An all-leather dash will probably start cracking after a few years of being exposed to sunshine (like we have here in California); at the same time, how often do you sit on your dash??

I think that the PDK leather surround + the PCM leather is a nice touch and not too excessive.

Is there an aftermarket PCM leather replacement?

I also never knew that the rear seats of the Carrera were vinyl

I don't think you can get the leather "face" on the PCM, but you can get the side panels - they are on the Suncoast site.

Yep vinyl rear seats - hey, they never said leather rear seats in the brochure, so......and they are also just velcro'd to the carpet so you can remove them and have carpet for even more storage and less chance of damage - maybe? Probably a handy feature with leather rears. I may order some replacement rears just for the added aroma.

Those panels can be popped off and replaced. It's not that hard to do. Eric The Plug Guy also do these in painted body color / Alumalook.

Leather center console can be added for a price. Mine cost ~$2.8K from Suncoast which includes the main center console, the ash tray assembly, the rear piece and the "banana" cover under the hand brake. I also ordered the leather PDK surround and had all of them installed at my dealer for <$200. You can do it yourself, but I was having difficulty getting the shift **** off.

There are cheaper way of doing it by removing your console and sending it to an after market shop. An example in this thread

There is a DIY somewhere on this site. I printed out the instructions and it was real easy. To remove PDK handle twist the part at bottom with PDK lettering (i believe) clockwise and it then slids off the shifter shaft.

The trick is finding the hidden screws that secure the piece above the PDK surroound so that the sides slide out of the way. They are hidden in carpet fibers an inch or 2 below the side panels above PDK.

Congrats on the leather PDK trim. Looks perfect!

We can get the console and ashtray in leather, they are listed on our website here:
