My First Porsche!
Really long story short, I've been looking for a 997 for about 3 years and finally found one with the right specs and the right price at Rockville Porsche in Maryland. Had it shipped to Oregon and it arrived yesterday. 2007 911S in slate/sand full leather, sport design wheels, and a bunch of other things that are really nice but not necessary. Original sticker was $101K and I picked it up for $61K with only 5700 miles. It looks, smells, and drives like a new car that I drove at my local dealer last year so I'm thrilled. Might have negotiated a few more $K lower, but it was the right car with nearly 2.5 years of warranty left so I think I did okay.
Due to work and family commitments I've only been able to put 20 miles on it. I don't need to tell you how it drove. Blew past a cop following another oncoming car at dusk tonight. I said a quick prayer, put my turn signal on to justify my hard breaking, and quickly turned off the road onto a side street and headed home. Luck was with me tonight as he didn't turn around. Looks like I'll be heading to an AV installer tomorrow to look at radar detectors :-)
I've been reading 6speed forums for months, picking up an incredible amount of useful information on what to buy, what to pay, how to buy (get full service records, DME, etc.), and so many other things. THANK YOU to so many people for contributing your knowledge and experience - this helped me out immensely!!!
I've got a lot more to write, but I'm going to be selfish and log off now so I can go read the manuals and sit in the car in the garage. Can't open the garage door and take it for a drive as it's past midnight and my 1 year old daughter is sleeping in the room above :-) BTW, she definitely likes the car as you can see from the attached photo.

Congratulations Dave! It's definitely one of the most beautiful color combinations out there! Kudos!
From experience, drive it anyday Dave, anywhere and enjoy it! I mean I'm not saying you should drive it like you stole it but drive it like you mean it!
Don't worry about bad roads, or stone chipping the paint, or scratches on the leather, or dings etc, nothing is worth getting yourself worked up for those things, its not a question of 'what if this or that happens, its a question of when it will happen' and there is a clever remedy for every single occurence. The most important thing is to enjoy it in good health, with your family and friends.
Everything, whatever it comes to, can be fixed without any hassle, so the best part of the ownership is to drive the hell out of the car
Because there is no substitute.
The coolest thing would be buying a childs seat and place it in the back, and let her enjoy it too
Drive safely and welcome to 6!

Dave,
Congrats on the new car, welcome to six speed, and great to see another person from Oregon on here.
Car looks great and the price you paid was stellar. Way to be patient to find the right car. I had a tough time looking in Oregon (the two dealers here are a joke when it comes to their pricing) and I ended up buying in Northern California. Your color combo is really nice and nice wheels that came with the car. If my car came with your wheels instead of the lobster claws, I don't think I would have switched mine out so soon.
Look forward to more of your postings on here. It's a great forum, good people, helpful people, strong sponsors, and an overall nice vibe.
I think you're like only the 4th person from Oregon on here (the Northwest section of 6spee is almost all Washington/Seattle folks). If you get this post early enough today, come on down to Bridgeport Village this morning (8ish am to about 10am) as there's a Cars and Coffee every Saturday there. Finally if you are interested in any mod's to your car, drop me a PM and I can get you in touch with some good shops here in Portland.
Congrats and welcome.
p.s. It's good that the handprints on your bumper are small
