Question Oil Temp w/ New Engine Too Hot

Today was the first day/evening I drove my car for an extended period with the new engine and the first thing I noticed was the oil temp in VERY mellow driving was over 225 now running 230+; normally (with the previous engine) it was between 200 and 225 at FOT and only came close to but never exceeded 225 when having a few rips to redline. The temp stayed at or above 225 even at night and I never exceeded 4200 rpm as I have to follow break-in again.

I've also noticed the rear engine compt fan no longer comes on at all but the front fans are functioning although not as robustly as before.

The original engine's oil temp never went beyond 225 even in the most spirited driving during 95 degree days...something isn't right as tonight is was 86 outside and as I mentioned driving super mellow.

Here's pic (albeit blurry) I took at a light.

What do you guys think? I guess I'll have to take it back in.

That's were mine goes when right off the highway. Probably at the edge of the 'normal" zone. I would watch it, but I wouldn't be concerned about it unless you hit the next mark. How's the water temp?

Water temp pegged at the usual 175. Does your oil temp actaully go beyond the 225 mark or stop there? I remember some here saying their oil temp hits 225 at the track but even there never goes beyond 225. Just to reiterate I am not exceeding 4200 rpms with most driving done around 3000.

Thanks

If its in the normal zone then I wouldn't worry. In aviation you tend to find engines that run warmer or cooler than others. Its all good as long as its "within limits"!

What's considered normal oil zone-temp as there are no red marking for oil, only water?

I can only imagine where the temp would go in spirited driving...guessing it would push 250 since it's already 230 at these low rpms.

From my understanding the water temp guages in these cars are glorified idiot lamps. They do not show true water temp.

If the owners manual does not say then I would just call your local mech and see what he says. If its within limits then stop worrying.

I have never heard my fan running when my car was turned off.

Perhaps its your location (SD) I'm in hot and humid S FL and somedays after the car is driven hard then parked in the garage the engine compt fan comes on...I believe that's what it's designed for.

Just tooling around 210-225, doesn't go above 225 unless I have been taking it to redline a few times
