Dension GW500 Install Info Conflict

A fellow 6speeder sold me his new GW500 that he won as a prize at an event. Today I started preparing to install it in my 07 T4S, but found some confusion in instructions. My car has no CD changer, and it wasn't clear to me what configuration was correct for my situation. I have the info provided with the unit, as well as installation instructions I downloaded from the web. Some of the Dension config diagrams show the Dension being installed as the first device out of the Head Unit, others show it as the last device on return loop to HU. My unit is around 18 months old I lbelieve, and is marked HW: V2R11. I know I will need to have a dealer program the PCM that there is a "CDC" implemented for it to be recognized. But I want to make sure I put the unit in the correct order on the MOST ring.

BTW, I'm installing it behind PCM stack so I can route the iPOD and AUX connector (for my XM) to the glove box more easily.

Any help appreciated.

I'm not sure it matters, and I can't recall how we did ours, but your best resource on this is Eric over at bumperplugs.com. He sells the unit and knows the install.

Did my install a couple of months ago and I'm pretty sure the Dension unit has to be the last item in the ring, e.g. if you have NAV, but no CDC, then the order would be HU, NAV, Dension.

I also do not have a CDC and after I installed the Dension, the HU automatically recognized the Dension installation. I did not have the dealer reprogram and everything is working fine.

Hi Ken,

I installed my GW500 over 2 years ago and as I recall I made it the last unit in the ring. My car didn't have a CD changer either. It was recognized immediately; didn't require a trip to the dealer. As I recall the Dension instructions are now pretty good and cover the Porsche install quite well.

I didn't bring the IPOD into the cabin. It seats on top of the Dension w/ the supplied IPOD clip.

Good luck . . . It's a pretty straightforward install procedure.

Does that apply regardless of presence (or absence) of a CD changer in the car?

No, my 06 had it first off the head unit, no CD Changer.
If CD Changer is present easier hook up right to changer...

Will do Jason. As you may have noticed, there are varying opinions on the right way to do it. The instructions that came with the unit are very poorly written with even poorer illustrations in my opinion. My unit has 4 dip switches, and the instructions were consistent with that, but the instructions I downloaded from their website showed 6 dip switches, so I don't know what changed. A brief explanation of things like this would help. I saw instructions on line for the Mobridge unit and they were excellent, with color photos of connectors and clear notes describing the details. You'd think Dension could do the same.
I've also been surprised at how some people on the forum say they've been able to use it on a non-CDC car without having to have the PIWIS treatment to tell the PCM to recognize the Dension as a pseudo CDC.

I guess it is a pet peeve of mine that some manufacturers don't do a good job of explaining their products properly for their customers. It wouldn't cost them anything.
