clear bra question

Someone backed into my left front fender. The body shop is replacing the fender. After about 2 months the paint will be cured and I will get the bra installed on the newly painted fender.

My question is will the newly installed bra on the fender match the existing bra on the other fender and front bumper. Should I insist that all of the front bra pieces be replaced? Thanks.

Don't know the answer to your question, but why would you need to wait 2 months for the paint to cure. With modern paint material and technique, it should cure in less than a week.

Sorry to hear that someone backed into your Porsche. For the best result regarding the Clear Bra, is to redo the hood and fenders. If there is no damage to the bumper, then you should not need to redo the bumper. Please feel free to pm, email, or call us if you need a more detailed answer.

Factory paint is cured fast because of the 300 degree ovens. But after market painted fenders can not be cured in 300 degree ovens. Thus it takes much longer curing time.

60 days would be a bit long. 30 days for paint to cure would be standard. It is recommended to have the top portions replaced to match.

I just picked up my car from the shop. The new fender looks perfect. I can not detect that it is a new fender. The color match is perfect. They also put a clear coat over the entire car. Only problem is they put clear coat on the stainless exhaust pipe and it melted. Now I will have to return and get the clear coat removed from the tail pipes.

Are you serious? That is just hard to believe. Common sense again escapes somebody.

Contrary to popular belief there are other factors to consider here. How long have you had the bra on? Is the original installer inthe area? if so can you still get access the the same film that was originally used? There is no need to replace the whole hood and fenders if the film is fairly fresh and in good condition. And if you have the same film installed it should match up very nicely. I personally think anything more would be overkill, but thats just my .02 I mean really, you are matching a perfectly clear film. What is there "to match"?

As long as it's the same brand.

Some brands haze over and it won't match.

Turns out it was not clear coat. It was white paint on the tailpipe.

The body shop had to remove the hood and bumper films in order to match the paint. (The left fender was damaged and was replaced and painted.) The right fender is now the only part that has a film.

The previous owner had the bra installed so I do not know what film was used. I have owned the car about 14 months so the bra is at least that old. I believe different films have different thicknesses and cut patterns?

I have made up my mind to get a new bra on the hood, bumper and both fenders. The paint has to cure for 2 months before I can have it done.

That's correct. Most bodyshops do have to blend panels with paintwork. Looks like you are now on your way to getting this fixed.
