2yr/20k mile service?

I'm @ 17.5k mi and dealer suggested this for ~ $800. Is this advisable/the right price?

Thanks in advance.

i would suggest shopping around dealerships... and start a price bidding war for your business for the 20K service... That is what my other buddies told me to try

I'd be curious to hear what others have to say about this as well. My car is due for it's two year service in about a month (car will have about 9,500 miles on it). Unfortunantly for myself, I only have one Porsche Dealership within 300 miles of me so I'm pretty much stuck.

I'd be curious to hear what people have paid and what the service consisted of.

Thanks in advance.

Let me guess, do you live in Orange County? The Stealer charged me that same amount for the same service on my 05 cab 2 years ago. After being ripped off, I checked with local qualified independent shop and was quoted $265 for the same service (oil change, cabin filter, general look-over). I changed my own oil the next time for under $100.

I thought the 2yr/20k mi service also included changing brake fluids?

In my particular case, they suggested the brake fluid flush FOR ANOTHER $200 or so. I guess they figured that if you're dumb enough to pay $800, why would you care about another $200.

I'm actually in LA, but I bet it's all the same. Hmm.. I was under the impression that 20k service was more than just an oil change.

Can someone confirm?

Brake fluids for $200??
I'm guessing ~$800 is the going rate.

$800 does not even include the brake fluid change!

Wow, unbelievable

You could save yourself some decent change by finding/going to an independent to do your 20k mile service.

So like I indicated, the only real "service" is the oil change and pollen filter, which should take them about 30 minutes. Everything else is a visual inspection that likely takes them about another 30 minutes. And if they find anything, it will cost extra. So about an hour's work, & about $100 worth of supplies (the oil is less than $7/liter at PEP Boys). I wouldn't mind paying $265 for that, but $800, or even $580 CAD is a rip-off.

It is interesting that they call for 1st major servicing at 20,000 km in Canada, which is equivalent to about 12,400 miles, vs 20,000 miles in US.

You forgot to mention that they also reset the service interval button for you so that they can get another $580

I paid $500 and change in NY/CT. Told them not to buy rip off windshield wipers or change my air filter. They did change the pollen filter and changed the oil and charged a remarkable $7/qt. for oil. ALSO, my car hadn't had the purge fan recall done, so they did that. I figured it is worth some ripoff pricing to have stuff potentially done under warranty and have a full check up done. It WAS worthwhile to me. They thought they noticed a RMS leak, which is not bad enough to repair, but at least will be on record closer to when my warranty expires. I figured the air filter might get replaced with a new airbox or performance filter, so why change it.
Oh yes, and they were very hot to tell me that the brakes need to be flushed. But they wanted $350!! Claimed it needed a special machine for the PSM. What a load of crap. My local shop did it for $89, including Motul 600, which other members have indicated is about the best choice. The brake feel improved, so maybe it did need it.
I also moaned about the pricing, so they gave me 10% off. Everything is negotiable and my take is that while the car is under warranty it can be beneficial to visit the dealer. If they tell you to change the brakes, tell them thanks - and take it to your local indi for half off. And maybe get an upgrade. I was a bit stunned by the Porsche price for the oil; I bet my indi would have charged me $12/qt.
Good luck!

At 20k/3 yrs I had the brake fluid, coolant, oil and cabin filter changed plus battery checked and charged for 650$ at an experienced indie run by ex P tech. Shop it. I don't necessarily mind the money but they (dealer) do nothing to earn it.
