Does it PASS the test
Does it PASS the test
Fellow members with AWE Headers and 200 cell cats....When you take your 997S for a emissions test, DOES IT PASS with flying colors????
Or replacing the OEM parts with AWE parts create PROBLEMS
in getting a tag.
Your experience is must needed before I jump the gun for around $3,500

Here in California it is always illegal to change the Cats and it will fail a visual inspection if the shop is savvy enough to catch it. It *should* pass emissions at full operating temperature but will fail any cold tests (not sure if California 'Test Only' stations require this). As suggested check with your State laws before proceeding.
Dont mean to hi-jack thread but,
Got pulled over for a random Smog check near Los Feliz...they (CHP) had a portable smog testing station (semi trailer)...kind like a sobriety checkpoint....pulling cars over left and right....Only in Cali!!!

Sorry to hear this happened to you.
I got AWE headers, cats, and muffler installed last month. Haven't gone if for a test yet but no CEL for sure. Maybe I should go in just for a test (it's free if I'm just looking if it will pass) before I have to go in for real.
Sound is perfect though and I love it. Not to loud with just the right tone.

Here in Cali we do our tests on a chassis dyno with the car at full operating temperature. Drive the car kind of hard and at higher revs than normal and the high flow cats should be at temp and you should pass the sniffer no problem. As far as the visual, most techs just see cats under there and they will be satisfied.

CA is truly not in USA anymore, it is somewhat else.
in CA, basically everything that isn't stock will fail the VISUAL smog... that means ANYTHING... i know people that have been failed for CARB legal exhaust systems... even having a K&N air filter in place of the stock box does not pass visual...
even WORSE, is if you get a citation and have to get your car over to a certified referee... my brother had to go back 3 times... they even failed him for having a turbo timer... my brother tried to explain it had nothing to do with emmissions, but the comment was "if it aint stock, im failing you"...

I did my NYS emissions test last month and passed with no problems at all.. I have Fabspeed cats, headers and a v-flow. No issues at all. The dealer gave me a copy of the print out and the numbers were very low. Just make sure the car is at proper op temp. A blast down the freeway to "clean her out" prior to doesn't hurt either.
For what it's worth, I just got a smog check done in City of Industry, CA to renew my registration (I have an 05). My car has the stock exhaust system right now.
The tech didn't do a visual inspection. He just plugged the computer into my car and ran the report so I wouldn't worry too much about the visual inspection (from the shop I went to at least).
Shouldn't be a big problem though. Worse case scenario, just keep your stock cats and put it on when you do your smog check. The smog check does not need to be done every year so it wont be too much hassal...
