Anyone have real world track numbers? What was Porsche's factory claim? Haven't seen any at the track this year..plenty of older 997's but none with new motor and pdk. Thanks

Nobody has real world #'s on these cars? Why isn't anyone taking them to the local track for some fun?

I promise I'll leave the Viper home!!

Are you referring to a "real" track or a dragstrip?
I am sure a lot of forum members track their cars regularly but I am not sure if people here are fans of going really fast without turning the steering wheel

I used to drag my M3 all the time. I learned very quickly that drag racing is more than just planting your right foot. So I probably respect the straight line track more than most on here.

That being said, most of the "track rats" here take our cars to road courses for a serious challenge against the clock.

Well, this wasn't done at a drag strip and I don't understand Japanese, but Best Motoring did some tests: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1gb26rsFHE

and got 11.772s

Start at around 4:39 to see the 997.2S w/ PDK doing the quarter mile. The whole video is pretty nice to see.

Love this video and for all C4S critics, you can see that in 997.2 form both the C2S and C4S have practically the same acceleration times

C4S added weight is not an issue and gives more confidence with the 911

Off course, this is my humble opinion

Both. There is no shortage of track or drag strips in my area. Track courses are usually a whole day affair. I usually have more time to go to the drag strip right from work.

BTW, what is really fast in the 1/4 to a porsche owner..maybe 120mph. My stock Viper('09) is good for close to 130mph!! Try laying down a 1.8 60' in a car with 550 rwhp and street tires...much harder than you think!!

This is Porsche thread. I for one could care less about a viper. All it is good for is a straight line.

My neighbor had one and said it was too hot and the truck engine though powerful, was too uncontroable to handle a corner effectively with out fear of spinning out.

You must have a real case of Porsche envy to keep posting how great your viper is in a Porsche thread.

Proof that having money and intellect do not go hand in hand. Never mentioned anything about how great the Viper is. Just introducing some friendly humor. Don't read into it more than you read.

I would have bet alot of money that the 997.2 S would not run an 11.77 in the 1/4. That is really quite impressive.

They must have been running very hot tires with no fuel in the tank on that video. Went to the dragstrip a few weeks ago and made three passes, best was just over 12 seconds for a C4S PDK. Granted I couldn't do a burnout due to the AWD and it was dipping near 40F, so traction was somewhat of an issue.

Were you on street tires. It has been a while since I have been to a drag strip but in my experience street tires do not benefit from the burn out pit unless you are running some kind of a really high tread wear street tire.

High 12's is a great time for a Porsche IMO!

I was running max performance summers. The burnout would have been helpful simply because the tires had become covered with small debris (sand, etc) on the return to the line. It would have also helped as the tires are rated for around 60F (if I'm not mistaken) and I was running them in 40F weather. On the two slower runs, my tires had significant slip, to the point of traction control kicking in. I also had 3/4 tank of gas and ~40 lbs worth of books and bags. Had the weather been more accommodating and I prepped more carefully, I think sub 12's would have been possible.
