Maintenance Costs

Just curious, what are some of the typical maintenance intervals and associated costs for a 997? (OIl, Brakes, etc.)

I've had mine for almost a year now and all I spent was $65 for an oil change which I did myself. I expect to spend the same in the next year. The next thing I will probably spend on are the rear tires which can be a little expensive.

These cars require very little: figure on regular tires, brakes (pads and rotors), and oil.

Tires: $2,400 per 12,000-15,000 miles for Michelin PS2's.

Brakes: no idea, but will soon.

Oil: Price per quart of Mobil1 0w-40 is $7 each. Figure $200 at the dealer, or DIY, about 8 quarts plus the tools and pan if you don't have them.

Tires are the largest expense and even a simplr flat tire can turn into two new tires for the owner who wants even wear and no weak spots.

Oil changes I do once a year or every 7500 miles on the 997S and the Turbo it's every 5K miles.

I also replace fluids, clean filters and whatever else needs work . It's under 1K to keep the car real nice excluding tires.

I had a 2005 997S launch model for 4 years and oil change and tires were only costs. Even then found new Michelin PS on Ebay for half. Have ceramic bracke and show no wear.

Also expect brake fluid flush every 2 years, $250? A set of brake pads all around, $400. Unless you do events, the brake pads & rotors wear very well. Chassis alignments seem to hold up, if they were right to begin with.

Had a 4 year/40000 mile major service: oil & filter, transmission oil, coolant, engine air filter, spark plugs, accessory belt, cabin air filter, brake fluid flush check everything and nut & bolt the car. $1300.

The worst maintenance expense is changing tires, 10-12K for rears & 20-22K for fronts, without doing events. A full set of PS2's, mail ordered& installed, will leave little change from $2000.

Don't forget detailing expenses and the car insurance can be costly.

Basic maintenance is minimal. Prices range dramatically depending on whether you do the work yourself, have it done at an independent or have it done at the dealer. In addition, dealer costs range substantially depending on where you are in the country. Your best bet is to call your local dealer(s) and ask them how much a one year, two year, etc. service runs.

I just did an oil change for $400. Which dealer you go to? Sounds like he is more reasonable...

I pay $200 Canadian! $400 has to have other inspections done at the same time, I can't see that heavy of a charge.

I'd add a brake flush to that...pretty cheap...$50 investment in a one man system, brake fluid, and a jack. You can even do it with the wheel on (depending on the wheel design and whether or not you want to risk dripping fluid on the wheel finish.)

About $200 for an oil change and inspection. About $150 for a brake fluid flush. That's about the only maintenance I've had in the 2.5 years I've had the car. I have the oil done annually, even thought Porsche says every 2 years. Other than the thousands and thousands of dollars you'll spend on tires, the 911 requires very little scheduled maintenance.
