Painting black plastic side covers on C4S

I have a C4S and the lower sill covers are made of black plastic, I think the turbo has the same design. I was thinking of painting them body color and wondered if anyone has done the same and if it has been successful and looked better ? I tried searching other threads on this but could not find any, but I am sure it must have come up before?

Thanks in advance

I agree with your idea of painting the black underside areas of your 997. This will definately make your car look better.

We do paint lots of exterior trim pieces for all makes and models.

It always helps with the "flow".

I say paint them.

Thanks for the feedback - so I think the verdict is paint them or just go spend the money on some skirts.......I am really surprised that porsche did not have these in body color to start with, but i guess it gives us something more to do

I hadn't ever noticed that before. Your car is a 997.1 (as observed on front lights and side-view mirrors.) Is that typical? Mine is black, but it's painted black. TechArt skirts are popular, but opinions vary on if it makes the car look "bloated". I like them, others do not. Personally, I like the GT2 plastic skirts for $600 but they are black, need to be painted, and are very subtle. Still, I like them.

On the C4S, the lower half of the rocker panels come standard black plastic. You can have them painted body color as a factory option ($710). My 07 C4S has them and my car is white. It really adds to the widebody look and greatly enhances the appearance of the car. A good paint shop should be able to paint them, but I highly recommend that you have them covered with clear plastic afterwards because they will pit and have rock ships if you don't. That is probably why Porsche has them in black plastic on the wide bodied C4's with the wider track that causes rock chips on side panels.

Dave - thanks, you just gave me another idea to pursue for the fun of it. Have them wrapped in body colored vinyl. I recall seeing a whole Aston Martin trimmed up in race colors all with vinyl.

....but, unfortunately, won't fit on a narrow body.
