So, returning home from a trip to Canada last night, my 997S had a meltdown. Driving on the freeway I noticed that she would transmit violent vibration through the body when I tried anything more than gentle acceleration. I pulled off the freeway and found that it would run OK for a bit on a slight throttle. However, then I got the dreaded red engine warning of 'reduced power' and then she shut down.
I got towed, eventually, to the local dealer at 730 PM and I await news when they open after the Holiday. Anyone think they know what this might be..?

 

Nope..but your under warranty. Relax and try to enjoy the rest of the holiday. THe good news is you have it at a dealer already.

yes, I'm not losing sleep over it. Funny, I was just thinking about "Planes, Trains and Automobiles' as I came back to CA from Canada...

 

I had a similar problem. If you have the PDK... then may only need to reload the software....

 

Sorry to hear that bro, hope everything will turn out ok. But as Buckwheat mentioned as long as you have warranty you shouldn't have anything to worry...

 

I had similar problem 2 months after I got my C4S; car shakes and reduced power. It turned out to be a bad cylinder 3 fuel injector and it took about 1 week for the dealer to find the problem.

yes, really violent shakes and then wimpering out.. Thanks for the tip, I'll pass it on to my dealer!

 

Friend had bad shakes in her 3 series sedan. I figured that it was a dead cylinder (loss of cylinder firing will cause irregular balance in the crankshaft = shakes) I was certain it was the ignition plug as they don't have direct injection.

It was a dead coil pack. I ordered one for her and installed it in 10 minutes. 100% again. She was so grateful as the dealer was going to throttle her in the tune of a few hundred bucks to look at it. (it was out of warranty).

 

My dealer thought it was coil pack, then wire harness, compression lost and eventually the faulty injector.

Do you always use Chevron or Shell gas? Have you ever used lesser gas?

 

So, an update on this tale. My car was deposited at Stevens Creek Porsche, here in SJ, on Wed evening and the assistance guy kindly dropped me at home on the way. The dealer was closed for Thanksgiving but called me at 07:50 on Friday morning. It was Jeremy, who I have dealt with many times before. He asked the symptoms and mentioned that it was probably the high-pressure fuel pump and that he would call me again once it was diagnosed. Guess what? He was spot on, it was the pump. They got it fixed in a couple of hours and the car is restored to full performance.

 

Welcome to the bad HPFP club, the good news is as in your case it is a fast fix. Glad they had the part in stock.
