How often are new NAV discs released?

The latest at Suncoast seems to be mid 2008?

And I'll bet that the map data on that mid-2008 disc is much older than that. (But others in the know can confirm that.)

From what I've read on this forum, you will probably sell the car before you see any map update. I'm not kidding.

Intersting... Seems odd, since Navteq is the source of the map data, and they update once a year for other brands. You would think with Porsche's propensity to over-price parts, that they would want to have an update available to purchase every year.

Not that I would update EVERY year... not worth it...

Many of us are also wonderinga bout 997.2 navigation updates. Ironically, the street near my house was finished about 8 years ago and still doesn't show up on Porsches newest navigation... Every time I drive down that road, the system thinks I'm off-roading!

I just went through the upgrade of my discs & system from the 06 to the latest ones (08)

What a headache.....first,,,, i haven't really noticed much difference w/the maps. There's a list of new towns that come with the maps, but none that would help me.

The worst part,,,,, the discs also come w/the PCM upgrade....and after going through the update process my PCM went from revision 3.2 to revision 3.0, i lost some functions and the dealer doesn't know how to get it back

When it was sold to me by the dealer i was told it would upgrade me to 4.1, needless to say i got all my money back and now have a downgraded PCM. They said they would look into why it did that, but i doubt they'll put much effort in it unless i become a pain in their side..

I have tried to find the person responsible for this at Porsche (last year) and neither PCNA nor Navteq could help me. I would have been happy to call the Porsche HO in Germany to get some answers, but couldn't find the name of the right person to call there.

As a backup, suggest as one option, if you have a Blackberry with navigation, try the "Gokivo Navigator" app from the app store, as it has voice directions so you don't need to look at it while driving. I tried it in Florida this year, in parallel with a Garmin unit I had in my rental car, and it worked quite well. As someone else said, we may be waiting a long long time, if ever, for an update that accurately maps 2009 North American roads.

I asked HQ (Atlanta) cust support about this (not 1-800 I know nothing) and they indicated that P had no plans to change from the 18 - 24 month update cycle they are on. My question was specifically geared to the new HD system in .2 and why didn't they get with the times and provide the updates or get out of the way. Makes no sense to me.

I would like to know as well. My 997.2 Nav works well enough, but, as said, the maps are well outdated, maybe as much as 5 years.

If Porsche is 5 years behind everyone else in technologies, I wouldn't be surprised my NAV has 2004 data on it

Use the "Offroad" compass feature for Western Canada.
