2005 997S IMS failure and warranty question..
Hang in there. Even with my CPO car it took about 3 weeks to get the OK and that was after I sent a few pushy emails.
Congrats! $3K is better than $20K for sure. Would be nice to squeeze labor costs from them as well, but, new engine is also not bad. Your car will gain value now so this $3K will be absorbed nicely. Will that be remanned engine or brand new one? Did they elaborate on that?
Considering your 2005 was out of warranty and not a CPO, I think Porsche took good care of you on this one. Making you come out of pocket for the labor is a little puzzling, but 3K is absolutely better than 20K!
Congrats!

I do not see any puzzle here as there is no warranty for dealership to write off labor costs. Someone has to pay for mechanics` time one way or another.
That's awesome. I'm regretting not reading up about LNEngineering's IMS part when I was having a transmission leak repaired. I got an updated RMS out of that repair at the time and it sounds like they could have checked on it at that time.
but PCNA doesn't want to shellout the money for the dealers labor.
Very fair deal IMO.
The only problem I have is that $3,000 for labor is way out of line. A good mechanic should be able to drop the engine, switch the trans and clutch, and reinstall it in no more than 10-12 hours. I have done it in my garage in that much time, with no lift, etc.
Right that is crazy. They say it is a 20 hours job. Well, what can I do now. Just want my car fixed. Also, should I buy some kind of extended warranty or service contact? If so can anyone advice anyone? Thank you,
