I'd be more than happy to pay $3K for a fresh heart in my 997. It also provides good peace of mind knowing it has the latest fix for IMS failures.

Good question... Non-Porsche extended warranties usually not that great.
Did you check with dealer if they can put CPO warranty on this new engine you get? That is really only part worth spending warranty money on. All the rest in 997 car is not that bad.

I would think if they put brand new engine into your car it should get some sort of warranty, right?

The motor certainly comes with a warranty. I've seen warranties up to 12 months on replacement parts. Sometimes 90 days.

The engine will come with a 2 year warranty direct from Porsche, definately peace of mind. Engine in my car was replaced by Porsche for the previous owner and is covered until July 2011.

Great to hear Porsche will cover the engine costs....labour cost of $3,000 is not ridiculous...probably has shop material ect. costs included in the 3K.

Unfortunately we can't always just toss the keys and say "fix it."
+1 on this....it's too bad Porsche isn't doing a recall on the 2005s to fix the flawed design. I'm interested to hear if anyone has used LN Engineering's IMS upgrade.

One question about 05' 997 with IMS failure, what about a 06 C2S, but the MY is 11/05? would this still have IMS issue?

update:
=======

found this thread, basically "The duel row IMS bearing that is found in most M96 engines and MY05 M97 C2S engines is the culprit for most failures. MY06 and later M97 engines received a much beefier single row IMS bearing."

so it means even the car I was referring to is a 06, it still has the same 05' engine thus still a chance to get IMS failure, am i right?

Hate to tell everyone, but I had my IMS bearing and seal replaced last week under warranty. It was seeping oil, but not enough to drip on my garage floor. My car is an '07 built 8/06. I was really surprised it wasn't the RMS, which seems like a more common problem.

Good to hear that you got it covered under warranty, but disappointing to learn that your 07 was effected by the dreaded IMS. Hope you get your car back soon. How many miles do you have on your 997?

24k miles. Hard to make any comment on usage. THe DME didn't have any overrevs past range 2. I've had the car since 20k and I never redline it. Not that any of this necessarily makes a difference.
