Unfortunate meeting with a fox ...

Damn fox ran across the road ... then cut back in front me. Was able to slow down, but still hit it. About a 5" crack in the front bumper and knocked out the center cover. Mad as hell, but could have been much worse.

So, it's time for a new bumper! I'll scan the threads and 997 classifieds. Hoping to jump on a "deal".

Poor fox....(P- front bumpers need some character...consider it a beauty mark).

With these fat tires, I can't tell the difference between running over pine cones and chipmunks, yet.

:-) Unfortunately tis is more than character and actual crack in the bumper.

So ... I think I've decided on the GT3 front bumper. Now to find the best price!

Hey bud,
Time for us to reconnect locally. We can get a deal together on a pair of GT3 front ends! Call me tomorrow? I will be heading to Hennessy to have an airbag light reset.

I had a friend who hit a skunk on the highway w/his A4, not only cracked his bumper, but after a week of stench that wouldn't go away, he found a 'chunk' of skunk stuck under his car

that was a year ago,,,,,his car still smells!

Eww.. my wife ran over a skunk a few months ago 20 miles from our house.. the smell is still lingering in our garage.

I once hit a goose...rather the goose hit me. It was taking off perpendicular to me..and the feet skipped off the front windscreen. Scared the bejezus out of me....it came out of nowhere......luckily no damage to me or the car (I had the top off). I miss that car...

Woozie...we can commisserate together on our 'gone and missed' 911's (true 911's, not these comfy machines with digital crap on the dials!...but that could be a separate thread.

i did an more thorough inspection this am and the damage is just a surface crack in the bumper. But I wanted to ugprade to the GT3 bumper anyway, so this is a good excuse.

Since this is just a cosmetic bumper cover, versus "real" accident damage ... the question is whether to report to insurance. I believe in using insurance when justified, but does anyone know how carfax reports work? The depreciation from an carfax report may not be worth the part to replace since I keep a $1k deductible

Hi! We do still need to catch up sometime. Are you part of any ATL clubs? I used to have a '65 Shebly Cobra replica and did the local group did a couple mountain drives each year.

On the bumper, I'm going to try to get it in before XMas. I'm driving the car to FL.

Thats sad...I love foxes.
But they are suicidal....
I love in farmland and we have mostly deer hits. The darn things always fall on your hood even if you gently tap them!

I just saw a vendor on eBay selling GT2, turbo and 997.2 front bumpers. Give it a try, this guy is also selling flat black turbo wheels, search using that. The prices were not cheap but not that nasty.

Disclaimer - I have no idea if the dude is reliable, just saw it, never bought anything from the fella.

Think I found the seller ... 911ava? Unless I misread his products/prices, suncoast seems to have a better option

Are 997.2 bumpers plug and play on a 997.1 (with the new fogs etc)? or are further mods req'd?

BTW- I took out a cat on the freeway a few months ago with my M5- front bumper had to be replaced along with the fan housing... little bits of orange fur stuck in the intake.... 125 km/h at night. One second it was in my headlights, and my only thought was "maybe if I center it between my wheels, I can go over it". The next second (or fraction of section) thump! Quite traumatic actually...

That's the vendor.

Well, Suncoast is a sponsor here. I had a good experience with them.
Besides, it will be new, not used, with Porsche warranty. On top of that, for a better price? Good move...BTW, at that time, they gave a 10% off for being a 6speed member. They have PCA discount as well, if I'm not mistaken.
