PDK Gear indicator

Is it just me or do others think the gear indicator light located to the right of the tach is a bit small. I kinda wish it was bigger like the ferrari.

Just look at the Tach - too low, down-shift, too high, up-shift. I think that is why the tach is so large.

I agree, way to small.
A heads up display would even be cool.

People always freak out on this question with "watch the tach" type comments. The reaction is almost as bad as admitting a good 0-60mph run is fun. Nothing wrong with wanting to know EXACTLY what gear you are in!

I have no problem in reading all info in the cluster including the gear display. Perhaps the OP does not have enough seat time with his car - if one drives the car little... it may be more difficult to learn/internalize its ergonomics/readouts. He seems to divide his driving time among 5 vehicles and everyone is different... I would not like to standardize clusters as I like Porsche's design.

BTW I do luv the Porsche layout. CLassic gauges. Just wish the gear indicator was slightly larger. Maybe I need to visit the eye doctor!

An optional heads-up display on the windshield would still be cool

More weight with useless doodads is what we need...

I have used heads-up display in C6/Z06 Vettes. I think they are useless. The most important instrument is the front-and-center tach.

Can you descbribe a bit more about "too low" or "too high"? Are there any "optimum range" for rpm in each gear. I have a pdk. When I drive in manual mode on the highway, I often confused between 5th 6th and 7th gear.

Thanks

No you don´t. The F430 cluster is way more praticle and easy to read which gear you´re in, I also find the Porsche indicator to small and it should be put in the rev meter like the F430. But the best option would be like the M5, once you´re get use to the head up display, all the other´s clusters seem from the IXX century, if you know what I mean . You simply don´t look anymore to the cluster, the head up display is a one of the best options you can have in a sports car.

Not for me. I drove one for a year and did not like it. PAG finessed the 5-instrument cluster to an art form - a driver's art form, that is.

You should try the one on the M5, it´s perfect believe me.

That is exactly why i said a heads-up display should be an "OPTION"
Only pay for HUD if you want it. I don't want the physical lay out of the instrument cluster to change.

Just because it is "useless" to you doesn't mean it wouldn't be very helpful to others.

I have no problem admitting my driving skills aren't as keen as others. I spend plenty of time behind the wheel but never mastered the skill of estimating speed, observing the tach and determining exactly what gear I'm in. PDK complicates this because it doesn't have the tactile feel of a manual gear box.
