BMC filter cleaning

How often would you clean your BMC filter and how would you do it?

Why would you want to clean it? it is $100 - just get a new one if old one turns black and dusty.

I just heard that the BMC will last a life time and that you just would need to clean it once in a while.

yes, you can clean it and re-oil it. Then if you put too much oil on it you`ll need to clean/replace MAF sensor.

I would not even think of spending my time cleaning it and would get new one.

You are right. It would be worth it to have a piece of mind with a brand new BMC filter than to worry if I used too much oil to clean it.

Thanks,

Soak it for a few hours in water and Mr Clean (or similar), rinse and let dry. Lightly spray a light oil (WD40 works fine) on the outside of the filter. You can then lightly blow off excess oil but it is not necessary.

IMO, the margin for error (over oiling) is too high and then you have a MAF problem.

I'll just buy a new one when needed.

Only if you wrongfully believe oil damages the MAF.

It's amazing that people believe in this false claim, even after years and years of testing has proven it wrong.

Oh come on, it's not like you're going to dunk the filter in a bucket of oil and slap it back in place.

BMC filters for my '09 cost about $250 a pair. That is not something that's going into the trash can just because they're dirty.

I have a BMC and as others have said, I am just going to replace it down the line. The risk of over-oiling is too high as is the cost of a new MAF.

Key is to LIGHTLY oil it from the outside. I have never had a MAF issue. I cleaned my K and N and or BMC filter once a year or 6 months
