Exclamation 997.2 "check engine" light

Fellas
My 09 C2 has about 9000 miles now. Driving back from work today took me 3 attempts to cold start the car at a temperature of 65oF. Weird I thought... Also a knocking noise unrelated to the revs started. Huummm I thought, hopefully is just the excessive gas on this cold start....

As I drove back, I stopped to add gas. Hitting back the road, about 8 minutes later, the car started sputtering if I passed 3000 rpm. I tried to take over a truck and the engine rebelled, sputtering and making weird loud noises, somewhat similar when you have a bad flat tire. The tires were good though, I slowed down a bit, kept the revs below 3000. Scared sh**** in the middle of truckland in the rush hour, filled with NASCAR wannabes.

Thing is, I need to stop once in awhile giving a live in disturbia (suburbia) and when I did that, the car just died. Nice that happened on a crossroad and I was sitting duck waiting for a monster truck run me over (no joke, this is TX). I could re start the car but it died another 2 times until I could get home. A nice red message showed up in the computer "engine failure( Correction-actually "check engine, visit workshop", far less dramatic)" and the red exclamation mark sits there as well the orange electronic injection symbol. I only fuel the car with 93 in the same gas station, I keep the oil level in the 3/4 level of the electronic indicator and is a PDK s I cannot easily abuse the revs. Have not take the car for a track a single time, I drive like a grandma and this happens. I wonder if I acted the opposite, as they are supposed to be treated.

I contacted roadside assistance ad they will take the car tomorrow to the stealership. Naturally, all their loaners are out (!) and they MAY tow the car back to me. That's a good 50 miles from here.

My best guess is the high pressure fuel pump gone bad. Hopefully will have nothing to do with the DFI. If so, I can sit and wait some good weeks to get my car back.

I'll keep you fellas posted, if anyone faced a similar situation, care to join?

Engine failure sounds a bit dramatic. HPFP failures do happen with DI systems. I am sure you will be up and running in no time. A knocking sound can be something different , however.

That's my guess as well. I was reading the internal 997.2 reference guide and there is the mention of high and low pressure fuel pumps. Perhaps is an easy fix, not cheap, but that's why god invented the warranty

I know it's a bit dramatic, but for a car this price, anything like that certainly feels like failure...

But your replies are reassuring, thanks!

HPFP. Flatbed it to the dealer and have it replaced. This is an issue with early 09s.

Agreed. This is why the Web and special interest forums are the tabloids of the 21st century.

I'm guessing HPFP. I am one of the lucky ones to have had it fail, your symptoms are close to mine, although I was able to get my car home and I believe I had a different warning message.

It's a fast fix if they have the part.

Aren't the repairs listed on the paperwork?

Good point, they should, even under warranty.

Today the car seemed to be fine, but one can't take chances, so the stealership has it.

Update--> As I suspected, it was the HPFP, 2 days to get the parts, another one to fix it...
