MY 06 problems or issues...

Hi all,

First time poster, long time reader. Thank you all for your great wisdom and experience!

I am considering purchasing a 2006 997 C4 Coupe and was wondering if there are any issues with this model year-vehicle. It actually was produced towards the middle of 2005 and went into service a few months later (so, I am assuming this is a very early MY 2006).

Did this MY version-production date have any of the seal issues or any of the other issues that you read about on this board (to the tune of much $$$$ ).

It is out of warranty, would not be purchased from a dealer, but has very low miles (12,XXX).

Are there known issues? Should I wait for a MY 2007, or did they work out all the engine malfunctions (nice way of saying failure) by MY 2006?

Thank you all in advance,

Steve

PS: Here is the VIN # if that helps you: WP0AA29996S715757

If they want $49.8K for this car as google shows - it is a way too much IMHO.
For that money you should at least have CPO status on her. But if you pay around $40K or so - why not, if PPI and DME scan shows no issues and you like options you get - why not.

What is that? PPI and DME...

Also, please answer my original question. This is NOT about price, deals, etc...It is about wanting to know if this model year car (early 2006-production 2005) has engine failure issues. Seal issues. Or any other issues that MANY people have had with their Porsche's.

Again, thank you!

Steve

search this forum - you`ll see a tons of info. PPI is pre-purchase inspection - you get your car to neary Porsche dealership and for $250 hey inspect car and give you report.

DME scan is a part of PPI and it shows numbers of over-revs in several categories - if you see anything significant in section 4 and above - skip on the car. But search this forum first, there are tons of info about options, procedures and all the rest you may want to know before you commit to buy.

Steve, welcome to the 997 forum.

Someone who just joined the forum and is making his 2cd post deserves a straight answer to a reasonable question.

The AWD cars were first released nearly a year after the RWD. A number of minor issues have popped up, but there have been no widespread problems with these vehicles documented on the various forums.

Issues include(all small numbers):
-RMS failures, most repairable with seal replacement
-Starter cable problems
-Trunk opening inadvertently from bad module
-High oil consumption
More frequent:
-Shifter misadjustment
-Short battery life
-Rattles within doors, dash or mirrors, sometimes hard to find.

By all means get an ECU readout by a dealer & have the car inspected by a competent professional.

You should not have any trouble getting an aftermarket warranty for this car. But not cheap from a reputable company.

Michael,

Thank you so much for answering my original question. Much appreciated!

I am torn between spending more $$$ and getting a CPO 2007 997 or less $$$ and getting a higher mileage and less length of a warranty.

The C4 was just an example. In all honesty, I live in Los Angeles and probably dont need an all wheel drive vehicle. I have also been told that if there are any issues with the all wheel drive system, its very expensive to fix.

Also, I am looking for a full leather 997. They are pretty rare.

Again, thank you for the great info!

Steve
