Made the leap - to the GT3!
Top Gear says: "The standard Carerra is fairly rapid, the ‘S' just about spot on. The Turbo would be as close to insanity as a 911 could get if it weren't for the GT2. So take a Carrera S and a GT2, rub them together and you get a GT3; the perfect performance Porsche".
If so was this before or after the episode where he destroyed a 911 by dropping a piano on it.
Congrats fang911. I hope the roads in Chicagoland are better than they are out here in the east. I don't want to take anything away from your joy and aniticipation of the new ride but personally, I wouldn't consider getting a GT3 here in NJ unless I was going to use it primarly on the track. That sucker is too low for our terrible roads!

When I was shopping the NJ dealerships last spring there were several clean CPO'ed cars on the lot with low front bumpers (GT3's, "regular" 997's w/aero kits, aftermarket c/f lips, etc.) and most were torn up pretty badly. Just be aware of how low your front end is but have fun and enjoy the new machine.

I always thought that he hated the 911' s... I was kinda surprised myself. http://www.topgear.com/uk/porsche/911.

Thanks guys, appreciate the kind words! It was a tough decision mainly from a financial standpoint- prices for used GT3's were all over the board, as were offers for my '07 C2S trade. Some dealers were asking $100K for loaded '07's with <5K miles and weren't interested in negotiating, while others were in the 80's for less options and 7-12K miles. Private party cars dipped into high 70's (on Rennlist) but obviously, I would lose the tax benefit on the trade. Also considered a new GT3- but no one was willing to negotiate- so the cash difference for a pretty basic '10 GT3 (MSRP 120K) and my car was between 65K+, which is pretty darn hard to justify- it's a great car, but more than twice a C2S? Yikes, couldn't do it, and the wife's response would have been, well, less than desirable.
Ultimately, our local dealer offered a $27K difference which, although still a signficant chunk of change, was much more palatable, and was for a one-owner, pristine GT3 with 9K miles, CPO'ed to boot. Although the extra cash was hard to swallow during the negotiating process, 24 hours / 100 miles / 1 front lip contusion later, I have no regrets. Will post some pictures later this week!

Congrats on the GT3. I hope you track it often, the only reason to get one. Some say that the 997.2S PDK is close to a 997.1 GT3 especially if its use is mostly street... Now the '10 997.2 GT3 is a different story.

congrats, on the new purchase, I too just went from an 08 S to a new Porsche, only I went with the Turbo. I know the feeling you described in the GT3, its almost like the S but way more alive in every aspect, handling, engine noise, rev limit/which feels almost unlimited when compared to the S. It was funny, when I was at my dealer in manhattan, they had to have two guys pull up on the front fenders to get it of their driveway, lol. I hope you enjoy your new car and post up some pics so we can see your beauty
