you really should try to find a race shop that you can try on the helmet first...get the highest Snell rating you can...look at Arai helmets as well as Simpson and Bell...make sure you get one that can be modded for a Hans device if you don't get one that already has the Hans connectors installed

I got the Bell M4 Pro which has a larger eye port. But you need to try as many as you can for that "perfect fit".

The SA2010 rated helmets will not be out till the fall. So (assuming you need it for DE's) you will need to get a SA2005.

The Bell M4 is a very good helmet as suggested. Arai also makes some of the best but expensive.

If your just starting out the Bell sport line is pretty good and less expensive.

I agree you should try to find a shop were you can try them on.

Thank you to all for great advice.

Roughly, how frequently is the Hans device used by the Pcar DE drivers?

I don't see them used at all in the lower levels where I drive...green and yellow.

the fact that many DE event organizers permit participants to assume the additional risk because they want more drivers does not mean it is safe to run around a race track at high speed with other drivers of lesser, equal or more capability without a h&n restraint device... if you don't intend to wear a h&n restraint device, which I think is foolish on any race track in a high performance vehicle, purchase the lightest helmet you can afford..although it will be more expensive than the heavier ones it could save your life in a crash

i went to a race shop. the owner had me try on Bell and Simpson models. he wouldn't even tell me how much each cost until he found the one that fit me best. his judgement + my comfort = the one i purchased. turned out to be a Simpson. get a pro to help you.
