Carrera S powerkit order option?

One of the performance options when configuring a build is Carrera S Powerkit for $16k

Anyone know what it is?

How about Sportdesign front apron for $3K?

I found this on another forum:

Engine upgrade to 300 kW (408 bhp). Comprises modified cylinder heads, carbon-fibre air filter casing (upper part), new double resonance intake manifold, sports exhaust system featuring specially designed twin dual-tube tailpipes and modified engine management. Note: also available in conjunction with PDK.

Its been called the X51 powerkit. in 996 form it added 25 HP (320-345). In 997.1S form upped HP from 355 to 381. Inn 997.2 from 385 to 408HP - I believe. Do a search and you can see what all comes with it.

I also recently read on a back issue of Up-Fixin Der Porsche that there was a kit to increase displacement to 3.8L and 300hp on the 993 series Carreras.

Hmmm, sounds alot like the (408 hp)powerplant in the Euro only Sport Classic.

Now question is, is it worth the $ for the warrantied factory mod or do it aftermarket for possibly less & No warranty ?

I think I'd save the big bucks and enjoy the car the way it comes. If more power is needed, buy a TT.

exactly. I'd just buy a gt3 or TT, or gt2.

Also doesnt the x51 also include the headers?

+1. The Carrera S is plenty fast without the X51. If you want more raw power, go with the GT3 as the $16K already puts you close to GT3 territory.

I think the X51/powerkit is an AWESOME option and to me makes the C2S one AMAZING machine (even more amazing than it already is).

Is it needed? Not at all, but are PCCB's needed? Are full carbon fiber interior's needed? So if you want to build the ultimate C2S i think its a must have option...

A new TT is alot more than 16k,

I would get the Gt3 in a minute, but need rear seats,

I was thinking of building a similar car to the Sport classic if that color was available as a paint by sample, with some unique personalized interior orders.

So again I ask, Can 16k get me reliable, similar or better aftermarket performance?

If you aren't going to track the car, then there is no point in getting the 408hp powerkit, also if you get the powerkit you will not get your money back when it comes time to sell. Just upgrade with aftermarket parts.

You could supercharge it for under $16k and then sell the kit at a later time. Talk about a beast, try a 997S supercharged.

If you can afford it, then why not? Seriously, the cost may seem prohibitive for the HP increase you are getting, but (and this may be debatable to some), I would say that you would recoup some of it when it is time resell the car. I know that I would have paid a premium for a car with the X-51 kit (probably up to $5K more). It certainly add exclusivity to the car and some people are willing to pay for it.

Just my $0.02...

Exactly, my car has it and, if I were to sell it, I'd like at least $5k more than a comparable car without it. But, on aftermarket parts you get nothing back and may be a turn off for some people whereas the factory Powerkit is anything but, specially at a discounted price.

As of not getting one's money back for it, do we get our money back for the car itself? Of course not so why would the X51 be any different?

Just my $0.02.
