Wet Okole Seat Covers

After I bought my '09 Carrera, I looked around for some seat covers for the front seats but most of what I found looked like they were made to fit a large cross-section of seats, rather than for a specific model. Wet Okoles are popular with the Corvette crowd, so I thought I'd give them a try. They are made out of the same material as a wet suit (1/4" neoprene) and are custom made for your particular vehicle.

I ordered them on-line. They offer a large selection of colors for the seat inserts and piping with the rest of the cover in black (I ordered black w/ red seat inserts (no piping) to match the exterior). Since they don't mass produce their products, their website said it would be about 3 weeks for the order to be filled. About a week after I submitted to order I received an email with an attached diagram of several (I assume) Porsche style seats, and was asked to indicate which style matched the seats in my car. I matched up the style with the picture and sent the email back. about 2 1/2 weeks later, the seat covers were delivered. Each seat cover comes as a 2-piece set, seat bottom and seat back, and are secured with straps under the seats and at the bottom of the seat upper. There are cutouts for the seat controls. The fit was just a little looser than I expected for the seat back, however the seat bottom fit very snugly. Overall, fit and finish was very good, and they definitely added some color to an otherwise dark interior. Sitting comfort is unchanged and they offer good lateral grip.

Not the best picture, the flash throws off the color of the car and the seat covers. Trust me, they match the Guards Red paint very well, and I have received several compliments on the looks.

But why? Are you saving it for the next owner? FYI, those covers tend to mar the coated leather anyway due to heat and friction.

For the occasional drive with a wet gym suit, throw a thick towel over it and remove it when you get home.

No, I put them on for the same reason I wax the car.

Huh?! You wax the paint to protect its finish. You do not cover the leather to preserve it. You condition it (and even that sparingly if you know leather). To each his own.

I just noticed that the accompanying banner ad on this page was - Pet Seat Cover. LOL.

Looks much better than what I would have thought, but I completely agree with Adias. Condition the leather once a month or so, use a good leather cleaner once a week (depending on usage ofcourse) if you want to keep the leather in mint condition. I've done this for the past 16 months on my wife's MINI and still looks brand new. Do you have sports adaptive seats? If so I would be interested to see how much protection your seat cover affords against wrinkling on those lateral bolsters from getting in and out of the car. That is one spot that my seats are already showing some wear. So let us know how it works out.

If you are not a slob, you do not need to clean/condition the leather once a month. Every quarter maybe but do it sparingly. I recommend Sonus Leather Conditioner used per the instructions. A little bit goes a long way. Avoid overdoing it or risk making an horrible shiny/sticky mess. Seat covers is a bad idea - that stuff grinds over the leather surfaces preventing it from breathing and risking marred surfaces due to mechanical friction.

Point is well taken. I usually use the Griots leather cleaner spray once a week which has a very non-greasy supple finish. When it comes to conditioning, I use very little leather conditioner that my delaer threw in as a freebee. It's MINI original product from Germany and as far as conditioners go, a little goes a long way. I will transition to either Sonus or Swissvax leather milk and will condition it once in two months and see how it holds up. I know that I am probably overdoing it by treating it every 4 weeks but have two preteens who are driven back and forth to school by their mom everyday. With my current regimen there are no signs of wear and tear on the leather considering all the abuse it is subjected to with the chocolate milk, school bag, band instrument cases etc. One point is that make sure the leather is warm before you condition it. You can also warm the product in its container in the microwave (just warm it if you know what I mean). This opens the pores and allows the product to penetrate deeper.

As a cleaner I found Porsche's own cleaner excellent.
