Cool On Board Computer Display vs. PCM

Can anyone explain why the Average Consumption (mpg) below the tach does not match the PCM travel data continuous fuel consumption (UK mpg)? However, the Range on Remaining Fuel matches. I had reset both displays to start.

I believe the dash cluster display shows average MPG for reset miles and the PCM shows the daily trip average. I only look at the milage from PCM.

+1 If you are asking about the info under "trip" in the pcm it's that particular trip. It resets after the car has been turned off for a certain length of time.

Additionally, I think the cluster reset is different than the PCM reset for continuous MPG. The range to empty will always be the same on both displays since it is based on the same fuel tank sensor information.

Right on. I set the PCM trip to continuous so the total mileage traveled is same as on the cluster readout. Also the range to empty is the same as you said. So the different aver. comsumption must mean that it is taken over a different time span? The manual doesn't explain. The cluster readout doesn't appear to reset overnight.

You specifically reset the consumption display in the OBC with the stalk, at which point it starts over: I'm assuming it restarts its distance driven and fuel consumed counters at zero at that point.

The consumption counters in the PCM are reset independently form that and have their own start of distance traveled and fuel consumed counters.

After re-fueling, I reset the cluster using the stalk and rest the travel data on PCM.
The total distance is the same as well as miles to re-fuel. Only the average consumption on cluster always shows less than on PCM trip continuous.

Don't you guys with .2 cars have 3 pages of "Trip" in the PCM? Mine does. Page two is the current data (reset after a couple of hours idle) and Page 3 is total (not reset unless done manually). Page 1 is configurable.

I'm assuming we are not dealing with an case of US vs UK units (miles per gallon, vs MPG(uk) ). I know there is a setting to adjust that, but what I don't remember is if the setting is in one spot and affects both displays/systems. I assume it does (since I cannot change the voice of my nav system to German without also changing all the other stuff to German at the same time)

Minok,
You just gave me the clue to answer my own question - What the OB computer was displaying was continuous consumption in US mpg (set when I bought the car from LA) Yes, you can use the stalk to go into "settings" and then set to mpg (UK) or even Km/L. Of course the data should match the PCM trip/Continuous. Thanks. Gary
