2010 997 Steering Wheel

What do you guys think about the manual transmission 2010 Steering Wheel ? Just like the PDK Steering Wheel but without the buttons. Does it look better than the Manual Trans Sport Steering Wheel with the round airbags? Your opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I went through a looooooong process to get the 10' wheel with MF and heat installed on my 09' 6 speed.

Love the end result though.

I have a thread on the process if you haven't seen it yet.

Good luck,
David

Thanks for the response. I'm assuming you had the 09 Sport Steering Wheel originally? You quoted 10", is it a larger diameter than the former? Didn't realize the process would be that difficult.

No, actually I didn't have a sport wheel before (left is original and right is current [bad pic])

I have driven 997.1 with the old sport wheel and the new sport wheel seems a tad thinner in the hands, but maybe it's just me. It definitely is a bit larger in diameter than the old sport wheel, but no larger than the standard non-sport wheel.

The heat is key. It makes a night and day difference for me since the 911 doesn't warm up that quickly in the morning. I don't have any heat for at least 3-4 miles and that's after letting the car warm up a bit before pulling out. So now I hit the heated seat (which also turns on the heated wheel) and before the seat even gets warm, the wheel is no longer cold

As far as the process, I was the guinea pig. Its an hour, 2 at most, of labor once you have the correct parts. You need a steering wheel switch (for multifunction) and a clock spring (for heat). If you just want the new wheel no heat, no MF it's just a bolt on (with a new airbag). Aaron or Ric at Suncoast have the details.

Good luck

Looks pretty nice. I like look on the bottom of the wheel. Seems like all your hard work is worth it. Thanks for sharing.

I really don't like the new wheel

It is a bit off subject but the new Ferrari 458 has a nice feature. The turn signals are push buttons mounted on the front. See the black buttons on either side of the airbag? There is no turn signal stalk to interfere with the paddles

I like the new wheel, but I am waiting to see if they release a padded option before I would switch.

It's a little more plasticky, but it works for me (drive the PDK version)

The one thing thats bugging me is the excess silver plastic on the 2010 wheels vs the 2009 wheels. I really like the look of my 2009 XPA sports wheel.. just missing the heat and multifunction option (not offered in 09 on 6spd). But that excessive silver plastic .. it may just keep me from upgrading... maybe the 2011's will be better?
