Breaking In Period - C4S 2010

Hello All: Cudos out to ll of you who spend the time on this site and sharing information, ideas, smiles, laughs and encouragement.

My '10 P-Car arrives in a month or so and was concerned about break-in period (not just engine but the whole frame). 2000 miles (or 3200 kilometers) - How severe is this? is keeping revs between 4000-4500 a must during this period? Interested to get some thoughts and perspectives and mostly first hand experience.

Thanks All. P.

There will be a lot of various view as is typical. You could probably search and read all day.

If you were buying your car used, how would you have wanted the previous owner to break it in? Do that, because your car will be that car in 2K miles.

I'm a fan of patience, reading the owner's manual, getting to know the car - wine her and dine her for a few miles before you put the big moves on.

Others say drive it like you stole it, but unless you did...

Yes, break-in per factory norm is important, especially now that engines are NOT hot-tested.

I am not sure where you are getting :keeping the revs between 4000-4500 is a must" business.

My 2009 C2S manual says not to exceed 4200 rpm during the first 2000 miles, and to vary the rpm range without lugging the engine (below 2000?).

I followed the procedure suggested in the manual, and then changed my oil.

Good luck with your C4S.

My break in period was the one hour ride home from the dealer..car has run flawless ever since. Even the hard 'bucking' is gone when coming to a stop in sport mode.

I did NOT observe the break in period on my 09 C4S, the car has 11K now and no issue at all. However, Im following the manual on the C2S because the wife is **** about it.

A couple of thoughts/questions on this. If the engine break-in period is as critical as has been suggested wouldn't Porsche or any manufacturer find a way to specify engine hours instead of miles driven? If you look at two hypothetical examples of one car being broken in by a long road trip in 6th gear vs another that's driven mostly in 2-3 gear, the engine in the second case would have approximately double the hours to reach that same 2000 mile mark. Since the break-in periods are not equivalent, which is correct?

Secondly, given all the abilities of a modern ecu why wouldn't Porsche just program in preset rev limits to prevent exceeding the prescribed rpm before the proper time?
