luxury dealers typically target a $8-10k profit on a pre-owned car and don't enjoy the benefits of manufacturer hold-backs that are both not apparent to buyers and are predicated on moving units. hence the "spread" on wholesale --> private seller --> dealer pricing.

i might also add that while florida is a great market for porsches (and lots of luxury cars), it's also way over distributed relative to the local market and the first place i look to buy at wholesale or cost. in just the porsche dealerships, there's the collection, suncoast, naples, champion, etc.

in every case, if it's exactly the car one's looking for, then it's worth a premium. that's an individual decision.
With used cars the region has so many independent high end lots to buy a bargain car that most dealerships don't hold a large inventory of used porsches . The ones they do have are in impeccable condition but it's like shopping at Tiffany's .. there's a price premium.

My "I told you so" was not for my own self edification . I wish my opinion was wrong and he bought the car at "72" which others suggestied. But I wasn't wrong and my price points were relaistic .. and they still would let him walk. They will find the buyer ready to pay higher.

If he's looking to buy a bargain Porsche there's a dozen indy dealerships but if he is looking for a CPO mint car .. then he may have to look elsewhere . In fact most of my suggestions with used cars in Florida are NOT from dealerships or indy .. but from snowbirds or those who own vacation homes who simply don't need a car and want to sell a low mile well maintained Porsche .

Thanks guys

Thanks for all you input guys.... I love the board more and more every day.

By the way, I wasn't dealing with internet sales and I did make a serious offer to purchase the car the same day.

While I'd love to walk into the local dealership and make a cash offer...but both Arlington Porsche and Tyson's Corner Porsche have very limited or no inventory. They just don't have what I want: 2009 black/back pdk 997. I guess some would find this back and forth research and haggling amusing...but it's kind of frustrating for me. On a positive note, though... I found the same car WITH NAV in AZ. Made an offer and they hit me back with a counter. $80k shipped to DC. Thoughts? Check it: http://bit.ly/9s9Rmc

If anyone out there wants to help me 'broker' a deal I'd love to chat with you. Send me a PM.

The cars are both too high . the Az car lacks the axle lock suspension .
I would not buy either at those prices . The 10K more you'd pay to get a new 2010 car gets you a one year newer car. In fact why not spec the car and order it and negotiate the discount right into the deal ?

80K and 83K are a lot of money .. and if you are spending that much why buy a car that someone else drove ? In fact 83K can get a used Turbo where a 140K car is used but has nearly the same miles but took an extra year of depreciation (if an 08 ) .

Compare price with my purchase of similar car today

I just bought a very similar car, a 2009 C2S, with nearly identical msrp.
It was a demo with 4500 miles on it so I am the first owner with the remainder of the factory warranty. Racing Green/Sand, PDK, Sports Chrono, XM, Bose, power comfort seats, self dimming mirrors.
I paid $75,000 from an authorized Porsche dealer with a clear bra installed at no charge. Given it's slightly higher mileage, I think no higher than high seventies makes sense unless this car is THE ONE.
Good luck on your search and purchase, it's a hell of a car.

Although this is a very nice car .. it is a launch car . That means that every dealership was given four of these identical cars making the production of that specific model very high. The price you paid is fair but those cars have sold at that price last year. Here's one example but there are many-(see post number 7) --https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...my-dealer.html

Here's another --he got 28 percent off on the launch green PDK -places it in low 70's in july. https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...7-2-s-pdk.html

The car he is looking for is different and I agree with him that at 80K or 83 K it's simpy too high .

I am not a car broker or sales person . I do get amused watching the car price fluctuations as it helps me evaluate the cars I own. I have two Porsches.

I have bought cars from both major South Florida dealerships but all of my cars have been new cars . If you want the numbers of sales persons from both just to find insight .. I'd be glad to give you their names and numbers. Pm me if you want them .

Me too...mine had 571 miles on it and I paid I think around $78k with PSE added. Color wasn't my 1st choice as I wanted black/black (had already had silver/black) but for the discount and new engine/car; Racing green wasn't too bad a 2nd/3rd choice as it was the color combo of my 1st car ever I bought on my own...a 1995 Acura Integra coupe in the exact same green/tan color combo...and I loved that car! So for me it was sort of like a return home!

I also looked at the AZ car. That store "usually" marks their cars a bit high.

Personally, I would offer them 75 shipped and stop talking. The answer is always no if you don't ask.

I have found better overall deals on 09 C4S' than C2's. Sticker to asking that is.

Be patient and try not to get in the ether on a car you feel is high but you really want. It is hard to be patient...I know.

Park Place here in Dallas just got a nice C4S w/ PDK. Asking 91. White/black. I feel 86 or so might take it.

Good luck!

5 - 10 percent . much depends on inventory.
The 2.9 percent finance is available and production is lower in 10 than 09. So if a dealership has only one PDK C2S it's harder to negotiate than if they had 5 of them . Better to negotiate on a car where the dealership has several of similar optioned cars .

BTW -with the 2.9 percent finance it is my opinion that trading in a car becomes more difficult --even though CPO prices are high .

Patience sucks

...but I don't feel like paying more than 75Gs for my first 997. No local inventory. I guess I'll wait around and continue to enjoy my Cayenne. If anyone sees a 2009 PDK black/black well optioned please let me k

I'd warn you not to work with P - scottsdale. Bought my Gt3 from them CPO and would NEVER do business with them again. Happy to elaborate via PM if you'd like.
