Just went to the Vegas dealer
While I am planning to buy a 997 or potentially a used 996 in the Bay Area, I have relatives in Vegas and could always register it there...
The problem is that the Vegas dealer has no "S" stock and the sales manager said the six coming in between now and March are all spoken for. They have some non-S versions, but when they get an S in they are gone in a matter of days.
I guess I will need to try and find one in San Jose or LA.

Yes, east coast dealers are dealing and have inventory. Won't be long before nationwide surplus causes dealers to panic and offer nice deals.

Which dealers have inventory? One dealer had a demo launch car that he was discounting. For someone whose business is to sell to Porsche owners, I do not see why all the 997 bashing. Or should 997 owners not need to try to buy? I do not see any 997 owners going on the 996 threads and bashing 996s, yet you and several other 996 owners have the need to bash the 997 on the 997 threads. If you do not like the 997, fine, but life goes on with or without you and Porsche will release a cab, a 4S, and a turbo all based on the 997.

No, I stated a fact, that there are numerous east coast dealers with inventory. This guy might be a customer, and so I thought I'd help with what I know as fact, not opinion.
As for my opinion, yes, I do believe dealers raping customers at MSRP on a 'new' model that is really not a new model is ridiculous. Not all dealers do this. Since this was your first post, we don't know much about you, but welcome your commentary, information and opinion as well. That's what this place is all about.
I was at one dealership about a week ago who was sitting on four existing 997 models, all unsold. Not a large dealer either. I know of other dealers in similar situations. Not panicking, but available inventory is now starting to build. So a customer would be wise to check dealers who are willing to deal a bit, instead of paying MSRP for the same car.

As far as options go, the ones I really want are:
BOSE
XENONS
SPORT CHRONO
