Another PSE (w/ashtray switch) question

Is turning it on with the switch the same as unplugging? I turned on my 2005 pse with the sport button. BUT, if I unplugged it Instead to turn it on it was much louder with a deeper tone. Does the 997.2 PSE work the same way? I have mine going to a switch in the ashtray. Will it sound louder if I unplug it instead?

Should be no louder unplugging the lead to the solenoid.
Energizing the solenoid quiets it, circuit off=loud!

??? Don't know!
Factory setup may still have some DME control when on, remedied by unpluging.
Should not be the case with direct electronic control.

The loudness you heard when you unplugged it is the way it is supposed to sound when activated. As stated above, absence of power causes it to go into loud mode. When you turned it on via the Sport switch, the DME was still over-riding it until the car's speed allowed implementation. That is why I wired mine to a switch independent of the DME so that it was loud at any speed when activated.

My 09 PSE is not as loud as my 06 either.
1. Car is better soundproofed, so, don't hear it as much, inside.
2. System has to burn more, but, presence of additional muffler subdues a bit.

PSE has vacuum actuated servo motors that close valves in the exhaust system which makes the exhaust quieter. To comply with noise regulations is various countries, PSE closes these valves during normal cruising. So with PSE enabled, the exhaust will be loud at idle, at high RPM, and during acceleration, but quiet all other times. If you want it loud all the time, disconnect the connector. That will remove power to the the vacuum actuated servo motors so the exhaust valves will stay open. I also used a wirewrap to strap the unplugged cable to a nearby hose so it doesn't flop around. __________________

Pretty sure PSE is quieted down from 25-45mph to comply with European (Switzerland?) laws of a sort (basically if you are cruising thru town...etc), and all other times open. No doubt once you hit ~4000rpm I don't care what speed you are at they are open.........

If I remember correctly even when the valves are open ( or in "sport mode" shall I say) the valves are not completely open from 30 to 50 mph for noise restrictions.

I am not a 100% sure on this since it's been a while since I have unplugged my PSE in a couple of months after purchasing the car and I have been running AWE system for a while... But I remember there was something about the 30 mph to 50 mph making the exhaust quieter in Sport Mode.

People with more technical knowledge (or a better memory ) should be able to help further more.

Direct wire=No DME control
Either full open or closed as per switch...
