is it possible to change a 997 to a 997 turbo rear quarter panels?

Hi,
I have a 997 C2 . I want to buy OEM rear quarter panels to install 997 rear quarter panel turbo style. Do you guys think this is possible? I was wondering about the width issue. Will the rear wheels be too short in width , because the turbo rear quarters are 44cm or 1.9 inches wider. Any help will be great, thanks.

the entire side panel (front to back) is one piece.. and welded in the factory.. they cannot just be removed (front fenders maybe) rears no. unless u do heavy welding, entire paint job... and can perform miracles... its unibody chassis... would ruin everything.

C2 is narrow body, don't think it will fit.

that rear quarter panel is not "bolted" onto the car, all 911's have the same center chassis... then they fix the needed side panels on the car and its welded all over by machines and individuals bonding it to the center chassis... the car gets its rigidity from all these welds in all different places and angles, so those rear panels are 100% apart of the car.. if you dented one.. you would be very sad, unibody means the chassis is the frame.... you cannot just remove the panels as with say a corvette or something that has a frame and panels then bolted to said frame.

they had an episode on porsche factory on TV u can see exactly how they do it...

YES: u could cut the entire back panels out and reweld something wider... or weld over larger panels but you would lose the essence of the car entirely, ruin it, and if you weld bigger panels over you cannot then put wheels to fill the gap as the stock fenders will still be under.

the front fenders on the other hand are bolted on, can be removed... rear=cannot.

Lol - this ain't no Corvette...

So what do they do if the car is involved in an accident and the rear quarter is hit and needs to be replaced??? Weld on a new quarter i assume.

Yes it can be done. Insurance companies do not total 911's just because a rear fender was dented and it is no different from doing a rear quarter panel replacement. You will probably need the turbo rear clip as well as new rear wheels or some pretty big spacers. I believe Mobonic did a full GT3 RS conversion which included the wider rear fenders as well. His car was previously a 997S. You might try sending him a PM or contacting him over at Renntrack.

they don't total it, but its future value is nothing to enthusiasts because of lost rigidity...

do what you wish, just please disclose to future owner.

Why would you want to do this? Other than style, they would serve no purpose on a N/A engine powered 911.

There is no loss of rigidity. It's just a body shell. TechArt sell's a carbon fiber replacement for the front and rear fender...there is no loss of rigidity...just look at how the GTStreet did in the Tuner Shootout when running Hockenheim. See pictures 1, 2 down below.

Sure it will fit. Everything fits...

Depending on how you remove the OEM one, the new fender may need to be welded. It is not that difficult to remove, and the welding is required only at two points...body work would merge the rest. I don't know what you mean when you say "unibody means the chassis is the frame." Unibody chassis does not mean the body shell is one piece.

Another example is when Ruf builds the RT12 or Rturbo. They receive the frame from Porsche, and modify the rear shell to accommodate the intercooler scoops from the narrow body Carrera.

I can't imagine why it couldn't be done. Compared to some of the things tuners do these cars replacing the rear fenders is certainly doable. It would be a big job but anything can be done if you can write a big enough check. As for the wheels, spacers would solve that problem.

+ million!

WHY people even consider such mods, is beyond my comprehension!

I guess the only thing someone can do is to change to Turbo rear bumper ON A C4S!

I have a c2s and really love the Turbo vents. The only reason I'm doing it is because I love the Turbo vent "look" . So if anyone has done this before, please share. Thank you.

all it takes in $$$$ but thats the answer to any question about thing being able to be done. nothing is impossible just too expensive for most. i think this would kill any future resale of the car as the amount of welding and other work. that being said im sure there are tuners out there that will do it for you

First off, you only need a bumper, but you need a widebody. I've seen it done on C4, but not on C2S. It's just not worth it. You got the following options:

1. Find an aftermarket Turbo look bumper, Techart might have one. Probably your best bet.
2. Sell your car and get a C4, and Turbo bumper, and someone who can do the conversion
3. Sell your car and get a Turbo!

Good luck!
