Ugh shift boot/**** problems

Hi everyone.

First post. I recently bought my first p-car. An 08' C2S Grey/Carrera red interior. I bought an OEM carbon fiber shift **** off the bay, it's brand new, only problem is 1) the boot is black 2) the **** and the leather boot are detached. My goal is simply to have the **** only on with the current stock carrera red leather boot. What can I do? Is there anyone that can fix it? meaning attach the carbon **** to a carerra red leather shift boot?

Thanks in advance

Why can't you just replace the **** and leave your existing red boot alone?

Agree with keninirvine. Since the boot and **** are detached (how could they be attached unless you bought them with matching shifter kit), why not just swap *****? We must be missing something here...
FWIW, in case it's not clear, I believe that to get the old **** off, you just pull straight up on it. Very hard. No tools, screws or clamps to loosen. Just yank.

Thanks for the reply guys. That is precisely what I'm trying to do, I would like to keep the existing leather boot and just shift out the ****, but I was under the impression that you weren't supposed to separate the leather from the actual ****. The way it looks on the detached black boot that came with the CF shifter is that it's not "ripped", but just the tip where the leather comes to contact with the **** is unfinished which perhaps needs to be "tucked in" to the bottom plastic ring of the ****. I guess my fear is yanking my current shift **** would cause some damage to the housing and I'd have trouble making it look tidy again. And looking at Suncoast.com all their shifters are already attached to a leather boot already perhaps to avoid this hassle or pain. Anyone? I apologize for the rambling.

After freeing up the lower part of the boot, lift it up, rotate the collar 90 deg clockwise. I used two vice grips to gently lever or pry the shift **** up and off.
You can then separate the boot from ****. There is a small metal collar or sleeve that holds the unfinished top edge of the boot to the plastic collar. I had to do this twice to get it perfectly straight.

Good Luck. Don't worry, you won't damage the housing.

Thanks Vtach. Some people are telling me that I would need to take it to a good leather upholstery shop but I look at that unfinished portion of the leather and it was never stitched to the boot nor was it "ripped" off which means that the plastic ring inside the **** is holding it together giving the appearance that it is connected to the ****. I will experiment a little. Thanks again!

Roll the top of the leather

You can even use a zip tie up underneath, I swapped shift ***** and kept the boot. I boot to the ****? I thought the 997 had a black ring that holds the boot to the ****. If you roll the top of the leather and sit the **** down it should be ok.

Thanks guys for all the help. Can't post pics (@ work) but seems like nothing is really "broken" or "ripped". Rennsport-1, feel free to tell the rest of the board if you want but I'm PM-ing you now anyway.

Rennsport-1 my meager post count won't allow me to PM you right now, but I think I know exactly what you are saying. The trick is to essentially get that leather boot tip part neatly tucked into the new **** housing would you agree with that? Looks like there might be some trial and error involved.
